I see. I just thought that perhaps the riots were because arrests had not been made and etc. This is, unfortunately, not that uncommon in countries with very low socioeconomic and sociopolitical development.
But I know very little about Bangladesh so I am merely generalising based on similar stories from similarly low developed states.
Please don’t get me wrong when I write low developed. This isn’t European sneering arrogance, I am just trying to be factual.
One of the three rapists, all of them from the majority Bengali ethnicity, was arrested. The indigenous community protested the delay in arrests of the other two. At this point a mob of Bengali people attacked the protesters who also retaliated. The army reportedly supported the Bengali mob, this is underlined by the fact that all three killed are from the indigenous community.
Not to mention the fact that this very army carried out indiscriminate shootings during July-August 2024 protests. Something that has earned them a ban from further participation in UN missions.
Had local elections in my state of NRW, where mayors and other local representatives are being elected. For context, more people live in NRW than in all 5 East German states plus all of Berlin combined. While overall percentages are somewhat misleading, the AfD got about 14 %. That’s not pleasant and of course a big gain, but it’s still 14%. When there are no absolute majorities for mayors, there’s a second ballot, happens in most cities.
Of course the media goes completely bonkers and focuses primarily on the three cities where an AfD one is on the second ballot - Gelsenkirchen (Schalke city), Duisburg and Hagen, exactly the kind of downtrodden cities where you would expect an anti party like the AfD to have particularly high numbers. Nevertheless anyone with even a bit of knowledge knew they’d have no fucking chance in a second ballot, yet the media fueled panic for two weeks. Lots of free media time for the AfD and predictably the AfD fans now are convinced that the second ballot results must be fake. So exhausting. There’s being alert and there’s counterproductive panic bait.
It’s the same with their Norwegian brothers “Norgesdemokratene”. They spin the exact same conspiratorical yarn for the exact same reason, although they are far less powerful and numerous (and professional) than the AfD. Their whining is still going on even to this day (election was now a while ago), becuse they, fools as they are, thought that their presence on Twitter (which they failed to understand was their echo chamber) indicated that they would get into parliament and become a real political factor.
What are you doing, Angela ? She is extremely intelligent, must know 100% how that man would use this. Her legend continues to blacken year after year, but this is an own goal so extraordinary that it’s hard to understand (unless she agrees with Orban; which I doubt). Maybe she should just be a bit silent about the Ostpolitik right now and not cause humiliating waves
It’s very difficult to assess what the outcome will be. But the Pro Russian regime is in complete dissaray and collapse. But they can possible crush this with paramilitary forces, maybe also with FSB aid.
I have been a bit too busy today to follow this super closely, but I have followed the protests for a year or so, and yes, the Pro Russian regime is mildly stated unpopular. The people are a horde, so large that the Pro Russian regime will not be able to just beat them down as usual.
To be honest, I am listen to a podcast of a novel. And I wanted to mostly continue doing that and have a cozy time
So use the sources I posted above and read for yourself, people
