We had a works meeting with a team from Scotland, and I had to try and write the Gaelic names out phonetically for our guys.
The thing is that there are literal equivalents, for example, Katrina for Caitrìona. But I had to approximate Siobhán. One of my teammates thought it was some sort of Irish motorway.

I’m just wondering what German based reds are doing for the upcoming season telly wise.
I’ve cancelled WOW hoping to get a new offer for a Sports season pass, but so far nothing. I do have an offer for the sport and movies, but not the sports package.
Do you think they are planning on putting the price up?
Previously I did get the sports package via Magenta, but it ended up being a total pain in the arse to cancel at the end of the season.
I have noticed that you can get the WOW sports package via Prime. I got DAZN through them last season, and the broadcast quality was a vast improvement, plus you could cancel at a moments notice. The other thing is if I am using another TV you are almost always guaranteed to get the Prime app.
Does anyone have any other suggestions (ones that don’t involve a dodgy stream for the most part)
I’m thinking about getting the WOW Sports Pass via Prime because it seems really convenient. However, I’m still not sure if it’s actually worth it for me, since I hardly ever watch the Bundesliga. Plus, I don’t think they broadcast every single match live. I’d be really annoyed if I signed up for it and then still had to find another stream because—of all things—they sometimes don’t show our team’s game.

I think it’s mainly between WOW and DAZN for the Sunday match. Sat 1 also have odd matches, but they are free.
At least WOW have the entirety of the Premier League which makes British fans envious.
As it was, I decided to go for the Prime offer, as there was a film that my wife wanted to see, so it seemed worthwhile to get the whole package.
I just checked, and they aren’t offering anything for me at the moment, so it would have to be 45€ a month just for the sport. Interestingly, for new customers they do 30€ per month for a year pass.
It’s a bit silly really. I’m assuming that you can just get a different email and access it that way. Otherwise, Amazon and Magenta both have offers.

Here’s my story as a supporter of Liverpool FC (a supporter, not a fan):
In 2013, I first came into contact with the ‘Reds’; at the time, Daniel Agger was playing for this historic Merseyside club. However, at the end of August 2014, shortly before the close of the summer transfer window, the Dane left LFC and returned to his homeland to join Brøndby IF. That’s when my support for Liverpool FC faded. When the “Reds” (who had been managed by Jürgen Klopp since autumn 2015) faced Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals of the Europa League in the 2015–16 season, I was still rooting for BVB.
Then, in late summer or autumn 2016, I had a crazy dream. I live in a social care facility in a residential programme for people with autism (I have Asperger’s syndrome). I’d dreamt that Steven Gerrard was working with us. And there was also a native Englishman working in my residential programme at the time (who didn’t yet have German citizenship). My support for the “Reds” quickly returned. And when Liverpool faced a German club in the Champions League play-offs during the 2017–18 season – in this case, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim – it was clear to me that I had to stick by my friends, the “Reds”. That season, Liverpool FC reached the final, where they lost 1–3 to Real Madrid.
In the years that followed, my support for Liverpool FC grew stronger. My favourite memory is this: in the 2018–19 season, when Liverpool won the Champions League, the Merseyside club knocked Bayern Munich out in the round of 16 (0–0 in the first leg at Anfield and 3–1 in the second leg in Munich). I was at a contact and information centre at the time – a drop-in centre for people with and without disabilities – and felt like I was the only one there supporting Liverpool FC.
My support also stemmed from this reason: as you may know, I’m a fan of Hamburger SV. Ever since I was 16, my heart has been set on the black, white and blues from the metropolis on the River Elbe in northern Germany. And in the 2010s, Hamburger SV experienced an unprecedented sporting decline, which culminated in their first-ever relegation from the Bundesliga in 2018. And throughout all those years leading up to 2018, HSV faced sheer hatred from ‘opposing fans’. And for this reason, too, I refuse, as a matter of principle, to root for any club in UEFA competitions simply because it is a German club. And among the fans who hated HSV were, of course, fans whose clubs played in the Champions League or the Europa League. Even in the first few years following their relegation from the Bundesliga, there were “opposing fans” who hated HSV. When HSV were promoted back to the Bundesliga in 2025, there were, of course, plenty of ‘fans of other teams’ who were delighted about it. But unfortunately, not everyone felt that way.

I drove from Calais to Ulm today…I have notes.
I love the vibe in German cities, it just feels like everything works.
German motorways are free…noice.
German motorways don’t have anywhere near as many services as French toll roads…massive boo.
I had to pee on the side of the road twice today.
I loved going 155 with my son cheering and my wife screaming.
Great doners in Germany.
The Alsace pinot noir I am drinking is very nice.

Weirdly, I have been driving through France this week. We are currently near Dijon. Initially, I used the Autoroutes, but for the trip from Reims, I avoided the toll roads. It took longer, but the sightseeing was exceptional and the roads were surprisingly traffic free.
I agree totally about the service stations in Germany, and even some of the Rastplatz don’t have toilets.

That hasn’t been my experience… I’ve never come across a motorway rest area that didn’t have toilets; even the smaller ones without a gas station always had them. Maybe back in the day in the East there were fewer of them if you were unlucky, but even then, you didn’t have to go in the bushes…

There are a few on the A1 like that, although it may be related to the widening work, because they have fancy new ones once they have finished.
