Giorgi MAMARDASHVILI: 2025/26

@Herb mentioned it yesterday, we touched on it.

It’s been repeated on here a good number of times.
With the state of our passing at the moment I doubt it would make any difference.

Anyway imo he seems to be getting better each match he plays so I’m in for giving him time.

I think GM will do better once he gets regular games.

Goal keepers take time to get into their groove and that’s not possible when you have the world’s best keeper as the other option.

If Allisson is leaving , get Giorgio a full season in front of goal.

He might have been here a little while, but to me he still comes across as ā€˜The Newbie’, which being understudy to Alisson is probably about right. I hope once he becomes more established, and peeks out from the Alisson shadow, he will demonstrate a more commanding presence in not only all goalkeeping things, but also more vociferous in commanding the defence in front of him… I have a good feeling about this guy doing a good job for us

I was just going to reply they are passing it to his left foot but with their normal accuracy it ends up on his right!

I thought that this was his most confident showing and his save from Beto’s header was top-class.

Then he got injured. Naturally.

Slot says that Mama has a wound on his leg which he was taken to hospital with, but it is not expected to be a long term problem. He may be available for next weekend.

It sounds similar to something I had when I was about 12, I assume they can fix it now instead of waiting for it to heal over which I had to do.

Yup it’s like the one I had, though mine was slightly further up.

There’s mutterings about Ali maybe leaving. If and when that does happen, what are your thoughts on Mama as No.1? There’s rumours the club is looking at signing a direct replacement for Ali. Could be media bollocks. But that would keep Mama as number 2.
We signed him as a long term replacement for Ali. So who thinks he’s ready?
Obviously he isn’t Ali’s level- not many are. In the games he’s played I think he’s looked decent and not done much wrong. Shot stopping is good, but his short passing needs work. I think his long kicking from his hands is actually pretty good in terms of launching quick attacks. There was 1 or 2 I remember where he was unlucky not to get an assist.

Signing a new goalkeeper wouldn’t necessarily mean Mamardashvili would immediately become backup. We might want competition and then decide in pre-season, at the start of the season, or worse, but possible, during the season.

I’d rather have Alisson for one more year, but I think if he leaves, we are going to bring in another option. I also have no doubt that Mamardashvili will still get chances to prove he can be first choice here. He’s aware (or should be) that this is Liverpool though, a different level to Georgia or Valencia (in trouble).

But it would make him number 2 if (as I said) we sign a direct Ali replacement.
Do you think Mama would be able to be our number 1 next season and do well enough to hold the position as his own? (hypothetically). Based on what we’ve seen from him?

Ps. I (and probably everyone) hope Ali stays. Although he’s no longer at his top top level, he’s still one of the best around.

I don’t think we will buy a ā€˜direct replacement’ for Ali as Mama was bought as his eventual replacement. We will look for a nĀŗ2.

Based on what he’s shown so far, he is nowhere near ready. Good shot stopper, poor with his feet, average on 1v1s. He doesn’t command his defence and he generally seems to lack confidence.

Maybe he hasn’t acclimatized yet to the club and the PL and he’s bound to play a lot better once he does, but so far, he doesn’t look like a worthy successor of Alisson.

Crazy to let Ali go unless we are offered crazy money, which with Juve we know we won’t be. I’m sick of the club bending to anyone who wants to leave; we need to be recompensed and not make it so easy for them. Other clubs don’t do this and you can bet that players aren’t saying I’ll go to Liverpool instead of Real, Bayern, Arsenal eetc because if/when I want to leave they’ll let me pull their pants down and choose what I want.

I think ā€˜good shot stopper’ should be a given for any prem keeper. In the modern age there is much more to goalkeeping. He is poor with the ball at his feet and that is something he needs to work on.
Right now I’d take Kelleher back in a heartbeat. He is the 2nd best keeper we’ve had since I started watching in the 90’s. People will argue Reina, I think he is vastly overrated (although still very good at his peak).
Although I’ve not followed Kelleher this season. How’s he been doing?

For me, I dont have a major concern about his ability or skills to be our No.1. My issue is with him being left footed, meaning our defence need to get on the training pitch with him and work on where he wants the ball played to him which is going to be totally different to what the defence are currently used to with right footers like Ali and Kelleher before he left

What are you saying?
That our players should avoid the training pitch?
Having to adapt is beyond our current players?
Who should we be questioning?
