That’s an ecouraging example. Thank you.
Shearer did his during his first season at Blackburn and was back in time for the following season where he scored a then career high
Terrible news
Someone give Matip a call and see if he fancies doing a stint until January.
In all seriousness it’s not as much the injury as such that worries me. It’s more the months of training and playing he’ll miss at this young and how that impacts his development.
Cup games obviously .
Sad for the lad. He really looked the part. Best of luck for his recovery. He will have the best medical care possible and the club will support him. On that last part I can only imagine the psychological difficulty for him - left home, left your country, still a young lad, and now a setback like this.
Wirtz is a great example that he can get over this and get back to where he was relatively quickly. It’s a setback, but hopefully he’s got much more to give us.
It also sharpens the focus on the need for a central defender. Guehi in January seems the obvious move, but it will be interesting to see if we have any other irons in the fire.
Dammit. Gutted for the lad.
ACL damn it!
Yeah, compared with the example of Wirtz, who still was in his familiar environment, Leoni will now be for a full year in a city of strangers, without team-mates, without his family members and friends from home (and the winter in Liverpool to contend with, coming from Italy… ).
I hope for his sake that he has (or finds himself) a girl-friend who can help him get through that horrible period. The physios won’t be enough, that’s for sure, and he’ll soon learn to hate them anyway…
I have no idea what his family situation is like, if any came over with him etc, but if not it wouldn’t be unsurprising if we allowed him to go home to go through the early stages of recovery. There is coordination that would need to be done with his medical providers, but that is fairly common practice.
The Italian Curse strikes again
Virgil too.
Well it snows in Parma… hardly does in Liverpool and doesn’t stick.
I assume he’s more used to shit weather as he’s from the north of Italy.
And I assume his family will be over anyhow.
Didn’t know the curse included ACL…
Wish I could come up with some constructive and encouraging to say but at this point, it’s 50-50. For every Wirtz that came back just as good, there’s a Calvin Ramsey who never got a chance due to his back injuries.
I wish him all the best and I hope he comes back stronger, but there are no guarantees. It’s just sickening that this happened to him, at his debut no less.
Hate to say I was concerned about a CB shortage in August and here we are.
Still don’t understand the logic behind letting Quansah leave. Homegrown CB
Gomez and Wirtz spring to mind,
I think that is a bit of hindsight.
I appreciate that Konate and Gomez have had struggles with injury, but I don’t think you can legislate for your new centre back tearing his ACL on his fucking debut. That’s just appalling luck.
Jarrell Quansah is 22 years old, and playing as fourth choice - which is what he would have been - was not going to do him or the club any favours at all.
Even if the club thinks he has it in him to go on to be an elite centre back, he has no chance of that without regular games. Had we kept him he’d have just stagnated.
The fact that he has both a buy back and a pre agreed contract suggest that the club see him as a player with a chance of a good future. They know what they are doing.
Didn’t Gomez do his ACL too?
Like his first training session under Klopp?
