On paper, it is an impressive list of clubs.

But the human side of it had to be a struggle. His “dream” move to Barca became a nightmare. They shut him out of the first team, gave his squad number away, and told him he was not wanted. All of this after paying one of the highest transfer fees ever in world football.

I also often wonder what emotional toll it takes on the family moving around every year and not being able to plant roots in one place for an extended stay. Or, if his family lived in one place while he accepted a loan and not being able to see his family.

Yeah for like 1 second I think with some empathy, then remembered he fucking paid to leave this beautiful club. Can fucking cry into his gold plated toilet.

I don’t disagree, I just think suggesting he had wasted his career is a bit far fetched. Did it all go exactly as he would have wanted? Of course not.

He’s played for some big clubs, won some silverware and has a chance now to put all his issues behind him, knuckle down and get back to football with Villa.

He could have a good few years there and still fit in payday in the MLS or go back to Brazil.

Once the dust settles on his career I’m sure he’ll be proud of what he achieved moreso than say a Theo Walcott

Not going to lie and not too proud to say I was really upset to see Phil go, especially in the manner he did. It felt like a complete betrayal. I was a fan of his, I loved watching The Little Magician work his magic. At the time I wasn’t sure what we would look like without him.

Obviously it was the catalyst for some great things for us but at the time it was happening it didn’t feel that way.

Particularly dirty was Nike “accidentally” posting Phil’s Barca shirt for sale even before an official announcement was made.

So, following the pattern, he’ll probably end his career at Nottingham Forest.

They would have more chance than Man City going by this logic

Looks like Villa are set so sign Digne.

Weird, all the chat was about him going to Chelsea. Who’s Villa’s current LB?

Matt Targett.

We’ll see what’s the price, but that’s a nice quick move by Villa.

Cash and Digne is pretty good.

My impression was Targett is decent, but reading comments from Villa fans they all think he’s shit and slow, so with that in mind this move seems to make sense

With Stevie’s 4-3-2-1 formation, he probably needs better up and down quality from both full backs. Targett should remain as a solid backup. They’re not great in numbers at the back; Cash is without a proper backup/competition, they have 3 senior CB’s, Young can fill in the roles at both full back positions but is obviously also getting on now. I could see them eyeing a player in midfield next summer; someone third who could start alongside McGinn and Luiz. Maybe even push Luiz, if they don’t have great faith long term in Nakamba. Even if someone like Ramsey showed promise in that LCM role. What they lack in numbers at the back, they have a bit too much in attacking positions, I could see them selling a few of those.

Early signs of ambition at Villa.
