Yeah I know I did , but what I meant (in addition to how I just replied to you) , was that performance yesterday was just anti-football and anti everything that we are as a team under Klopp.
Gerrard could well become a very good manager , but good enough to manage us ? I seriously doubt it.
I agree. Iām unimpressed with comments that Gerrard will definitely manage us one day - feel itās much too early for Klopp etc to be saying this. Heās impressed me somewhat (I had very low expectations and didnāt initially rate him as manager material as I understand he was not a great student of the game for much of his career) but he has to achieve so much more before he should be even in the conversation as Liverpool manager. He demonstrated good judgement and balls going to Rangers where he did enough to get a go in the EPL but heās only had 5 games so far.
Hopefully we will continue on with Klopp for several more titles and his replacement then comes in and wins several more titles - thatās what matters not whether his name is Steven Gerrard.
I would like to know what Klopp would do with that Villa squad. Perhaps the parallel is Klopp starting at Mainz? Certainly a resource issue but too early for me to taint Gerrard with the Mourinho brush or insist that heās a future LFC manager.
As far as club legends go Dalglish was pretty special. The football during his first stint remains some of the best Iāve seen anywhere anytime.
As new manager of Aston VIlla, he did well. Limited one of the most potent offenses to a single goal. His team was in the match until the final whistle. And at Anfield, no less.
Stevie could have hardly had a better start - but for a great Ederson save and some last ditch defending from Matip and co., his Aston Villa could have been undefeated in the first five games.
That said, I think itās very disrespectful to talk about him as a future successor to Klopp having managed a grand total of five PL games. I found it strange that Klopp bigged him up for that role but then I thought: Klopp does that to his āpeopleā! So, he probably genuinely thinks that Stevie can be a success at Liverpool one day.
That said, he has years ahead of him to prove it. Also, like Klopp emphasised yesterday, itās not just about quality and experience but also about timing. It took Klopp fourteen years in management to be headhunted for Liverpool job after all but he took the job while he was halfway through his vacation.
Let Stevie be until then, weāll see how heāll shape this Villa side. A couole of wingers wouldnāt go amiss, maybe an uograde at left back as well. The core of the side looks to be OK, though: no one can convince me that Leno and Ramsdale are better than Martinez (an old-school shot-stopper, also with a very good record against Liverpool) Konsa is pretty good and is only going to get better (I can understand why he was linked with Liverpool last summer), Nakamba, McGinn, Watkins are more than decent. Heāll have to find a way to shoehorn Buendia and Ings into this side, probably not all of them in the same eleven.
Stevie will be our manager at some point in the future but not because of what he achieves at Villa (is someone really thinking he will take them to European competition?) but because of who he is.
He says itās comparable to Klopp at Mainz, itās nothing of the sorts. Mainz transfer budget was basically nothing, Villas is one of the biggest in the league.
Klopp s biggest signing was Ā£2.5mil, Villa just spent Ā£35mil on Buendia.
What would you expect him to achieve at Villa to qualify for the Liverpool job in the future?
I expect him to be sacked before Klopp leaves because it happens to probably 90% of managers in the PL (same in the Bundesliga). 3 years is a long time.
Dean Smith did a fantastic job for Villa in the last 3 years and they still sacked him as soon as they lost a few games.
Get them regularly in Europe, maybe a cup or two. I donāt think much more is possible, but that would show talent.
I donāt see how he becomes our manager if he fails at Villa. Wouldnāt that disqualify him?
Ok, I understand that part of your argument. You are sceptical that he has what it takes to be a success at Villa. Fair enough, but how would he then get the Liverpool job?
