Grumpy Old Reds

Time for a Grumpy Young Reds thread

Nope. That will exclude those inbetween.
A Grumyy Not-so-old Reds would be better.

How about Reds who are grumpy or have been told they are by others?

It’s elementary, my dear Watson. Just change this thread’s title to The Grumpy Reds.

It doesn’t matter as long as you find under 40s annoying.

E-bikes not a problem here. The renting of them is tightly controlled. In fact in some places here, renting one is so complicated that I just gave up and did the eco-friendly walking thing.

If there is one thing that really gets my goat is people walking around looking down at their phones the whole damn time. It’s particularly noticeable with students. No matter what the time of day, when they are going from A to B they just cannot put their effing phones away.

I have to jump on board the moan on E-bikes, scooters, etc.
The concept is great, however, some of them are so fast, and there is no restriction on who uses them.
I am working City of London at the moment, right by St Paul’s Cathedral and whilst I admire the number of people using bikes, the cycle lanes, etc, it lawless.
No respect for Red lights, people on their phones, headphones on, etc. Usually, you wait for the lights to change, the cars to stop and then you cross. In London, you have to further check for cyclists because the majority don’t stop. Even when people are crossing they fly through.
The other day i witnessed a cyclist travelling across a five way junction just stop their bike in the middle because something bounced out of their bikes basket.

I have recently witnessed a lot of drivers and their passengers doing ballon’s. Last night, I was driving to my hotel at 3am and a car pulled alongside me at the traffic lights. The front passenger had a balloon and the driver was inhaling from it, as they drove off the back windows were partially down and I clearly saw someone in the back doing a ballon also.

I would like to add people doing a 3 - 9 point turn in a busy street rather than use an island or turning further up the road. The annoyance with this manoeuvre is further heightened when the car is indicating out of a parking bay, you let them out so they can get moving and instead of them following the flow of traffic, they hold up traffic from both directions because they lack consideration for others.

Wifey hates me driving as I am always complaining about the shit standard of driving.

The odd ones do get compliments.

BTW drivers in England are a better standard and far more courteous than in NZ

Cyclists are a scourge.
Ignore red lights and pedestrian crossings.
Constantly on pavements.
Ear pods.
No helmets (not illegal but WTF)
Undertaking on roads without dedicated cycle lanes.
Speeding.
General dangerous weaving manoeuvres.

Yes yes, car drivers are dickheads too

From my own experience/observation (I hope it is not took in the wrong manner because it is not my intention) is that it is very much a male/female approach to driving.
I find that Men do a lot of the driving, so the partners may not share the same frustration with other drivers as they are usually preoccupied. I also feel men are more likely to take offence to people not showing a sign of appreciation for our courtesy.
To further my grumble and maybe this is a result of me getting older, I just feel the standard of driving is getting worse and that there is an ever increasing number of drivers that make you think, how did they ever pass their driving test.

Exactly. Like you I am in no way exonerating drivers. There are some really bad ones out there.
However, cyclists just do what they want. There is no test for them to prove they are road worthy and how do you police someone on a bike that has no plates, and with the whole electric bike rental scheme are more than likely not to be owned. You can trace a bad driver, you can’t really trace a bad cyclist.

For fairness, I must stress that my gripe is predominantly with the Lime Green bike Cyclists. The genuine cyclists are more likely to adhere to Road regulations.

I took the title from the TV series “Grumpy Old Men/Women” which was just people being mildly irritated by trivial things.

It’s more of a state of mind than an age requirement. Judging by the number of posts on here, there are no shortage of candidates.

I was assuming that this was helium. It would be quite amusing if they were pulled over and all sounded like Jimmy Clitheroe.

I went swimming this morning. It’s something I enjoy, but some people’s pool etiquette leaves something to be desired. Kids fighting is bad enough, but the two pensioners chatting whilst occupying the best part of three lanes is more of an annoyance.

The worst thing is the butterfly. There are four basic swimming strokes. Breaststroke is for normal people and the crawl is for the more athletic - assuming they can actually do it and watch where they are going. There is also the backstroke, which is largely for those that would prefer not to know where they are going.

The butterfly is the fourth stroke. At least, it is an Olympic event. However, no one in their right mind does this in public. It’s essentially just drowning at velocity: some prick showing off and rendering the rest of the pool unusable. I think the lifeguards only tolerate it because it is cheaper than a wave machine.

Butterfly and backstroke should be banned. They’re both antisocial. You’d be arrested if you tried that shit in Singapore and rightly so.
