Grumpy Old Reds

I live in close proximity to a person who waits until the total amount is calculated and then proceeds to rummage around in her bag looking for the exact right change. Even when it’s 29.89! Refuses to use a card and is on a mission to use up change. It’s excruciating.
I have to walk away nonchalantly looking anywhere but at the faces of the annoyed customers and staff waiting for the rigmarole to end.
But then again, there are wonders.

The ones that stand packing their bags in a very specific order like it’s a game of fucking Tetris.
It never comes off the conveyor in the order it MUST go in the bag, even though they loaded the conveyor themselves.
Not to mention the little pauses throughout the process to discuss Mrs Browns fall last week and the pesky neighbours cat shitting in the flower beds.
THEN, theres the rummage through the handbag searching for the purse to pay.
FINALLY, another brief chat about how the Hartleys jam is in a different aisle now.

Best just to stick to Aldi. Professional shoppers only: stuff-till-door. They take no prisoners at the checkout. If you can’t keep up, it’s scrambled eggs for dinner.

Fuck me… they moved the Hartleys again?

People making detailed game predictions, including goal scorers and assists etc - as if they’re some kind of genius future seeing person!
I need more sleep

Calls for Nyoni to start games

Sounds like my Nan, what you would call a proper Irish Woman. Only got the paper to see who had died back home.

Every fortnight I used to take her food shopping and to collect her wages (pension). There was a routine, Morrisons, Aldi, Newsagents, then home. The one week, when I was in a rush she threw a spanner into this routine…we had to stop at Tesco’s.
I was like okay, fair enough, didn’t ask questions. She got a trolley and started walking round the shop. Perfect! Or so i thought. We walked over to the Rice section and pulled out a receipt. “I knew it” she muttered, turned round and wheeled herself to customer service which was 10 deep.
I’m like Nan, what is it? She again muttered “I knew it” I’m like you knew what? They have over charged me….
They had over charged her 5p on a pack of rice! I’m like it’s 5p, it’s nothing, but she insisted on queuing. “Nan, I give you the 5p”! Reluctantly, probably after seeing the despair in my eyes, she dropped her grievance, but should would have been quite content waiting and making her case.

When she passed (God Bless Her) we found £17k stashed in two handbags in her wardrobe.
To this day, I still can’t quite work out whether if it annoys me she had so much money but wanted to moan about 5p or admire her for being a woman of principal and that every 5p adds up.

I feel you :+1:t2:

I think you already know the answer .

I remember at Junior school, 3 kids walked over to me because they had a problem. One of the lads started doing all these types of karate kicks, so I just booted him in his nuts. He collapsed to the floor and I just walked off.
Later that day, I got pulled into the Head Teachers office for bullying, attacking a fellow pupil. The HT wasn’t willing to listen to the, but Sir he started it argument and I was given a warning.

I suppose, my grump here is that 35+ years later, there are “adults” who behave no different to the 3 lads on the playground.

Unfortunately, their shite is international and frustrates all. Their monopoly - I am sure someone argue differently- is designed to make genuine people suffer. Dynamic pricing is a joke, how a company can independently raise prices on demand is scandalous.
Look at the recent Oasis tour, they knew there would be a high demand and that the tickets would sell out very quick. There is no reason apart from robbery to justify putting prices up. Just sell them at face value.

The whole system is a farce, they make money, the touts/bots make money and the fan gets ripped off and the independent venues see little of this. This is a major grump of mine and one that definitely needs to be challenged.

Completely understand your frustration. The whole ATM process is annoying.

Enter Pin
Select cash only - so no I don’t want to see my balance or require a receipt.
Enter withdrawal amount.
Do you want to see your balance - no
ATM continues sorting money
Would you like a receipt with this - no
Money is dispensed
ATM would you like travel insurance?

Almost as annoying as the PDQ’s in petrol stations, and repeated across many Fast Food ordering points where they ask if you want to contribute to charity and/or round it up.
No, I just want to purchase some food/petrol without feeling judged by an electronic device.

On the back of this, the whole self service is a frustration.

People waiting for a pay by cash checkout - not a card only. They then just stand there holding the queue

You need an impartial judge

Doing butterfly properly is actually a great sign of a strong swimmer with good technique. It’s an exhausting stroke but 100m fly sorts out the fish from the rest.
