One thing I have noticed of late is a lot of decent looking deals on Squiers. They would probably not be my first choice straight of bat but some of them are guitars that Fender simply don’t offer, the specs on some really do rival fenders (bone nuts etc.) and then of course some have been fiddled with through pick up changes etc. as people try to turn them into Fenders.

There was a shameful period for Squiers tho, when Fender moved production to China sort of late 09 to 14 I think, then it moved back to Indonesia and the quality has come up again. In between this there was a Squier Classic Vibe and they are well regarded and sought after and a little bit pricey.

Yeah I certainly wouldn’t get one of the bottom end Squiers but there’s options like various Deluxe, models and signature guitars like the Jim Adkins one. Fenders are on another planet cost wise or simply dont offer it. Tele with twin P90’s is another Squier only one.

Yes, I have actually switched off to new Fender guitars since this new range came out; is it ‘Vintera’ or something and such. The price point has boomed. A Mexican now close to a grand and a proper USA upwards of £1500. The tech I know says there is absolutely no reason to buy a new guitar anymore; the market is now saturate with unplayed NOS. More buyers than players over 50 years has taken its toll and it was surely a factor mooted when Gibson went pop. I think this is right.

All true. Guitars are not washing machines it seems and guitar manufacturers haven’t cottoned on to that style of manufacture (limited lifespan). Good thing too they’d sound awful.

Another factor I feel is less new guitar hero’s nowadays. Trying to think of some and it’s not easy! Foo Fighters, John Mayer, Biffy Clyro …er struggling after that.

They are solid rock styled guitars. Mine is exactly the same bar the colour. I’ll get some photos for you this evening

Do they have thick radius of the thinner radius?
Cant work out from pic ive seen of these

They’re kind of in between. The fretboard is kind of flat. Not Wizard neck flat but far flatter than a Strat. Also the neck is best described as U shaped I’d say with the rear being almost flat to aid that speed but again not super thin like the speed freak necks. Its 43mm wide at the nut.

Two really good things I’d say about them is that the Gibraltar bridge is probably the most comfortable bridge to palm mute on and their tuning stability is really solid.

Ok I’ve just had a little play with the new Spark amp and I’m in a little bit of shock to be honest.

Firstly it sounds good for such a small box, I’ve had to really dial down the bass but otherwise its quite impressive. It was really easy to dial in a tone I liked using the App on my phone. Probably the first time I could really say I was 100% happy with a guitar tone like that, I had in my mind what I wanted and it was super easy to get close. I’ll fiddle some more with it just to play around and fine tune things but I’m not far away straight off. It obviously has an in built effects chain which you can play round with. It’s basic but has lots of options and it simply works.

But then things got interesting. There was a basic blues jam in there. It’s a 12 bar blues where you can change the tempo and key to suit. There’s obviously rock, pop and other similar things too. There’s also a feature where you can search for a track, it will find it on Youtube. it will play that track through the amp and you can play over it. Best bit though is it has a running chord chart going with the song.

next thing to explore tomorrow is the custom backing track feature where I’ll play a few bars of a basic rhythm and it will create a backing track round that.

Honestly, for a bedroom guitarist and someone that wants to progress (me) I’m stunned.

All cool. I had a kiddy in a sweet shop moment but it is a surprising little box.

One thing I’ve found already is that I’m playing off the volume on the guitar more as well. No foot switches so purely relying on the volume and pick up switches to change tones. So it’s already it’s got me playing a little differently to before. And that has got me thinking about guitars again. The Ibanez actually sounded great and having two volumes was a nice little feature that allowed different levels of gain by switching between the two pickups.

The custom backing tracks and chord sequences seem very useful. I dont suppose they show you them in tab form as well?

Its so underappreciated how much a good amp changes the experience; I think Im more into amps, well maybe not, but nearly!

They show you the chord diagrams and a moving graphic showing the sequence and where you are etc. I’m trying to get a screen shot of it but I’m useless with this phone thingy.
