Good call. You’ll have to change the strings in the proper way here, by stretching them out (in three sections, at the nut, mid fret board and pick up area) before you bring them up to full tension, as they will just sag by day two and you’ll have to do it all again!
Good. Nothing worse than rounding a screw or an allen bolt. Come across far too many of them in my time and every time it’s a pain
Probably knee jerk what with not being able to sort strings and feeling down about last nights game but I hate this guitar. I hate the feel of the fret board. Feels like a bit of 4x2. That is gonna take some getting used to if I ever can.
Typical me and my impatientence.I should’ve waited but no I couldn’t wait.
It’ll probably be ok in the end but as guitar shops are closed I can’t take it for a service and set up until fuck knows when.
Getting the right tools will help. A little surprised it didn’t come with the right allen key for a string change to be honest. It’s a nice guitar I think and will deliver what you’re after.
I’m guessing that neck is pretty flat and getting used to it will come. I’ve just gone the other way moving from something quite wide and flatish to very rounded. Really comfortable for chords but a different challenge for playing lead.
Anyone got any tips how to play these. ??
They literally make me want to quit. I just don’t have the fingers for them. The people on YouTube have much longer skinnier fingers than me.
If I manage to bar all the strings then the other fingers mute everything else. Or its the other way and the 2 fretted fingers are fine until I put the bar on.
I feel so fucking fed up with it all. Not a good day today. I literally want to burn all my guitars.
Im going through my youre either born with it or not and if youre not born with it dont bother as youll always be shit stage. Happens at least once a week.
But even when that mood passes I still wont be able to play these chords.
time and practice mate. If you’re really struggling to get the whole barre (first finger across the whole fretboard) there’s no rules against barring only the top 4 of 5 strings and just play those.
But I would really try and persevere with it, it will come. Learning these chords is also essential for what may come further down the road if your tutor uses the CAGED system where you basically need to know all the “normal” chords all over the neck. Basically what you have there is a Am7 chord shape which you move all over the neck. That applies to all your open chords - E shape, A shape, G shape, D shape and C Shape. Also note the similarity between the top strings of the C Shape and Am7.
Try to play the regular E minor chord with the root on the seventh fret of the fifth string. Strum it for a few times and then just remember to lift your pinky - that’s how I learned to play these minor “7” chords.
Good tip. Another one would be practicing your normal open chords but use your 2, 3 and pinky fingers. No first finger.
Then move it up the fretboard and slowly start adding in that barred 1st finger.
Took me a while from memory as the fleshy part of 1st finger would just mute the B string.
My issue is the barring and the under side of fingers muting other strings. So all in all - shite
yep I think we’ve all been there and believe it or not I still struggle with a barred F chord. For some reason I struggle to keep my wrist square with the neck when up the nut end of the neck.
I’d work on the chords using your 2, 3 and 4th as above and then drop your first finger down so it only plays those higher strings to begin with. Then slowly work it up.
Like everything with guitar, it takes time, a lot of time, unless you can practice 8 hours a day or have a crossroads handy.
Come back tomorrow then. Honestly, that’s how I do it when I get so frustrated that I would break the guitar in half and toss the remains out of the window. I think that brain and muscles need time for what you’re learning to settle and in a day or two, it will be easier for you. I can’t be the only one who’s noticed that!
These chords seem impossible today…tomorrow…who knows.
I really wanted to learn this KISS song. I’ll just learn the chorus and bridge and come back to verses tomorrow
I think the new guitar turning up without Allen keys meaning I couldn’t adjust string has just fucked me off. I’ll have them tomorrow.
get the old guitar out and turn the volume up, I mean a long way up, neighbour disturbing loud. No better way to thrash out some frustration
Darn it. made the fatal mistake of looking. Just found Effectrode pedals.
I must resist or I’ll be selling body parts.
Its the hardest job on the fret board give it time, a little each day but dont give up. My barre chords are shit anyway, unless its a two note power chord.
Oh boy. Hope we win Sunday now or there’ll be hell to pay
I had a little breakthrough moment last night which means I’m really starting to bond with the new guitar.
Firstly went back to basics. ignored all the amp simulators on the amp and just added some compression, overdrive, delay and reverb and boom got a lot closer to the tone that I’m after. Also a little bit on he noise gate. I almost got the Big Buff to sound half decent as well. So all a massive confidence boost. So next step is how transfer this to real on the floor pedals now.
Then onto the new tele. It is honestly the easiest guitar I think I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing. The lightest of touch is enough for it. Still some work getting used to it, particularly when it comes to bending and vibrato. That comes from the more curved neck profile.
Guitar sorted @Walshy07 ?
No, today…hopefully.
