Guitars, Guitars and more toys that go with Guitars

Well…my pedal still isnt here. Probably lost in the post.
I have tracking number but the Royal Mail website hasnt been updated since 03/02. It was posted a week ago tomorrow.

In separate news I have been offered by a mates work mate a les paul Epiphone for £50! Bloke bought it for £350 and hasnt used it. He is sending me pics later.

Have it, and send it to me!!

jees talk about some sweet luck. Are you buying a lottery ticket this weekend? I bet you’ll love that guitar. Bummer on the pedal though.

Im hopeful the pedal has been held up due to shit weather and lack of regular post. Fingers crossed.
Ill post a pic of guitar when I get one.

Always do the £10k a month for 30 years lottery!!

Gawd yeah. I hope that’s not a bad omen. I’ve also got a couple fo pedals in the post.

Hmm Dortmund colours…right. Amazing confluence of marketing that might only reach a shrinking demographic of guitar playing loyals. I would give it four years to see how it performs.

As an aside, I understand optical compressors are the ones to have. Or at least, are the most transparent. The Cali 69 or Dinosaural, I think are the most sought after. The boss is less transparent, but believe the Kelley’s are based in the legendary Ross, which is minimally intrusive in gain terms, but not quite optical. Have a Keeley 4 pot and and it suits my requirements.

Just stumped for a Boss CS-2 on the compressor front. Better than the CS-3 by all accounts and has that sustain control separated out. I’ve heard good things from it so took a chance. Not an issue to sell that one on if it doesn’t suit. I did look at a Cali 76 but they’re all well over £200. Others I dont know a lot about.

I’ll build my own board I think (I have good quality birch ply in the garage along with some lining carpet) but will now have to sort out a proper power supply and all the other various little tricks like isolation etc.

Delay will have to wait a little while but I one on my list is the TC Electronics Flashback but there’s gazillions of others to research as well.

New overdrive arrived today.

Full of Gadgets. :upside_down_face: I hope you haven’t got fat fingers some of those knobs are awful close to easily flicked switches. :astonished:

It’s compact alright. The whole box is smaller than I thought it would be. Should be 9k though

Haven’t tried it yet. No power supply :no_mouth:

Finally arrived.
It’s nothing special in terms of make but it’s good for learners due to fret size .
I’ll give it a go tonight.

No sign of the pedal. I’ve said to the seller I’ll give it until Friday and if not here we will have to say its lost and ill have my money back. He can sort loss out with Royal Mail.

Just a thought on the pedal. if he’s sent it second class it might as well be delivered by a snail. I had a similar thing before Christmas. Utterly bonkers, something like 2 weeks.

Nice looking guitar that.

I had some ‘important’ legal documents sent to me from England over x-mas. Took 3 weeks to get here in France which meant my parents ended up have to pay extra fees as i had only 21 days to reply from date of posting for the extra fees not be incurred.
So just a warning never sign legal stuff over the x-mas period!

Thats a nice size mate well done, looks a good one.

Those Marshall pedals are supposed to be like chocolate cookies, once you start…

2 out of 3 aint bad, we warned you on floating trems…now just for @Noo_Noo to work out the fuzz thing!!

Yes, I’m probably going to sell the version of the Big Muff that I have and will probably look at something else, perhaps another version from EH. They seem to vary a bit. But there’s no rush for that at the moment.

I need to get the foundations in place for an actual board now. I’ve a good idea how I’m going to do it but I’m terribly short on detail, like how big (or small) to make it.

I was starting to get frustrated again. I’d found some good lesson on the internet so tried learning some tunes. I didn’t realise but the problem was I didn’t know the tunes I was trying to learn (I did improve my finger positions for the chords though). So once i realised the problem I thought what do I know, well evidently Neil Diamond quick internet search and Sweet Caroline poped up (one of my favorites for personal reasons not that it’s a great song but it’s nice and jazzy). This also was a bit frustrating as it didn’t sound right as you need to bar off to get that tone. Still I am progressing with strumming as well as finger positioning. I’ll have to start spending money now or just find another Neil Diamond song that doesn’t need a thingy. Loved this guys video (some are awful.

Anyway something I thought might last a few weeks is really taking off, I manage 3 15 sessions a day and when I take a lesson from the internet will do a whole hour (then my fingers hurt).

Thanks guys for this hobby that I can do in confinement, Oh and don’t spend too much.

Too late for me, the hole is being dug and the shovel is still in my hands

Marty is a good choice. And I’d definitely recommend getting a capo for anyone playing acoustic guitar. It just opens up so much and they cost nothing. A capo will cost you less than £10.

And who the hell doesn’t like Neil Diamond?

With regard to exercises, you’ve just got to do them I think. it’s like anything, somewhere along the line you have to get your head down and actually learn something and then do some of the mundane practice. I spent half an hour last night just playing chromatic scales up and down the neck, working purely on accuracy and speed. I then moved onto a an exercise which was loosely based on the repeating lick in the “final Countdown” solo (mentioned above) Still way off the pace and accuracy on that one but it is getting better. Just for the briefest of moments it sounded right. But it’s a great exercise for building timing finger strength and getting a good stretch on.

I would love to play some of the old Police songs - Every breath and Message in a Bottle one day. They are honestly painful to play at the moment and I’m in awe at how Andy Summers keeps those licks so smooth and voiced perfectly.
