Guitars, Guitars and more toys that go with Guitars

Well amp has stopped working.
I have the Katana mk 1 and you can link it to pc to get your guitar to sound like other guitars.
I downloaded software but pc couldn’t find the amp, then it did but it was saying the amp was in slave mode and needed a factory reset.
I turned amp off, held down the panel button, turned it on and the reset took place. Then all the lights went out and it can’t turn back on. The pc can’t find it now either as when I turn it on there’s a humming but it can’t power up. I changed power leads in case fuse has gone but still nothing.
Typical .

There’s probably an internal fuse.

I’ve had one go in an amp before.

Easy fix???

probably with a screw driver. I’d be surprised if there wasn’t one, usually behind the panel where the power lead goes into the amp. It wont be a plug socket fuse though.

Looks like ill have to take out about 20 screws!

Bummer

Do you have the manual. Should be able to track down where it is from that.

Could be the transformer has gone down; with the buzz but not coming on?

Yeah I do come to think of it. Ill have a look.

Optimus Prime is dead?

I found it on line and there’s no mention of an internal fuse there. I’d be astounded if there isn’t one though. Perhaps there’s a wiring diagram or something.

Esp gone in for a set up, nut repair and general tidy up.
Once back the Jackson will go in for a set up and service.

So me and a mate stripped the amp back - took all the screws out.
Its not the internal fuse as we tested it. There’s power going to it but it wont boot up.
So I have take it to a repair place today.
Its either got stuck doing a re-set or apparently there’s a chip in there that’s prone to blowing.

Is it the App, and does it have any games on it?

A small update from me: I finally got my hands on one of my dream guitars, an ESP LTD EC-1000, Vintage Black this one. I was looking at different models of EC-1000 from afar and with utter heartache but this one came out of the blue, so I didn’t think for long and pounced quickly because it was at half the price and barely touched. Got the case with it as well. Previous owner was super nice, he even had it set up and gave me a pack of new strings and a bunch of different picks just in case, incredible guy.

It’s a real machine for metal, EMG 81/60 combo packs a real punch. The former is crystal clear and defined, the latter is pretty dark and brooding. Even with higher action, it’s much easier for me to downpick, play triplets and those quick palm-muted riffs that made Hetfield famous. I’m nowhere near that level of speed, obviously, but I hope I’ll get there some day. I didn’t think that a guitar can make such difference, the neck really suits me, it’s easier for me to grip it and bend the strings as well. I still suck when I want to play something quicker, like those repeating licks that Jimmy Page popularised, though, no guitar can make that right.

Small update from me…

Amp repaired at a cost of £85 - Somethin wasn’t firing up when powered on but it took 2 hours to fix and a new part.
Took my EC-256 for a service and repair. Finally got the nut changed, restrung, guitar tuning key replaced (D string one fell off) and a fret clean and polish.
Then took my Jackson for a service. Needed new strings, electrics fixing (kept dropping out), Fret polish and general clean. They were both done for £190 so I wasn’t in the wifes best books spending nearly £300 this month.
Since the ESP EC-256 was repaired and serviced I have fallen in love with it again so much so that the Jackson isn’t getting touched. I might consider selling it but no idea what it is worth. Anyone know where I could find out?
After a year of learning I’m feeling more and more comfortable with the C neck shape - not as thick as a Fender Strat C but what they call the Slim C shape.
I was in PMT the other week and they had a lovely PRS for £799 that’s taken my eye and feels lovely in my hand.
Last few weeks I’ve been learning picking songs to get used to picking individual strings - then the real challenge is looking at the fret and not at the strings I am plucking and I’m pretty much there.
Part of songs I have learnt of late to help…
GNR - Dont Cry
Metallica - Unforgiven
Bon Jovi - Wanted
Oasis - Slide Away
Manics - Design for Life
Cinderella - Nobodys Fool
Blue Oyster Cult - Dont fear the Reaper

Feel in the last few weeks I have moved up a small notch and feel more comfortable playing now.

Definitely thinking of selling my Jackson and getting a PRS

Any particular model you’re looking at?

Custom SE 24 - But need to try it first. They have one in my local PMT so will take Jackson to see what they would give me for it. If crap offer Ill stick on ebay and facebook.

So went down PMT to see what they would give me on the Jackson - wasnt expecting a great offer and was right - they would only give me £300 part ex.
But…the guy behind the counter said thats what the shop would offer…but if you sold it to someone interested, like him, I could get a bit more. He offered me £499 and although its a little bit lower than I wanted I thought by the time I fuck about on eBay, rejected silly offers, sort out courier, pay new selling fees I thought fuck it and sold it to him then and there.
He sent me the funds via Paypal and I had been trying Epiphones but found the neck a bit too thick so tried a PRS and loved it. It is this one and only cost me £24 to swap.

Job done.
