ebony fingerboard.
Must be a newer model.

At the danger of overstepping my boundaries here… I found the ad and noticed it’s an Indonesian made EC-1000, which might be as good as its Korean made counterpart but from my limited experience, I think there is a probability you might get disappointed with its quality.

Try it first if you can. Personally, I had an Indonesian made Washburn PXL20B and it was a decent guitar but it took me two technicians/luthiers to fix some intonation stuff and some strange echo on the third string. I ended up selling it to fund EC-1000 VB EMG, Korean made. I swear by it, it’s better than my playing deserves. I noticed that there is one similar model available in this store for the same price, also Korean made but with Seymour Duncan pickups being the only difference, so I’d suggest you try it as well and make a decision.

Nice. I like this one.
I’ve asked the bloke a few questions about this.

This one is quality, I really couldn’t argue even if I wanted to. Call me a fanboy but I don’t think you can go wrong with Korean made EC-1000 models.

Congrats. I’m more of a traditionalist myself i.e. give me an old Les Paul but I bet that’s still pretty tasty. Probably plays better than most guitars I’d like too.

Id love a les paul but at the moment I just cannot get them comfortable in my hand.
Guitars that are fine in my hand - ESP Ltd, PRS and Fender Strat.

Slide guitar tutorial with Roberto Luti - Playing For Change Foundation

In this guys tutorial he is playing a steel bodied guitar from the 1930’s…
Worth a watch

Three quarters the battle I’d say. If it doesn’t feel right you won’t play it.

Liked that. Need to watch more. I’ve got a 1950’s parlour guitar that needs a little work that would be ideal for that style of music and blues. It’s actually why I bought it in the first place.

Had rehearsals last night.

Played our way through

Runnin down a dream
Cocaine
Rockin in the free world
Heroes
Teenage kicks
When I come around

We have those 6 pretty much spot on so hoping to do open Mike night in sept.

I have an update, too. I’ve finally started working on assembling a pedalboard - I’ve managed to score Boss BCB-90X and I also got Polytune 3 Noir Mini, EHX Big Muff Deluxe Sovtek and Ibanez TS9DX (I wanted a regular TS9 but this DX version popped up dirt cheap and in great condition, so I took the plunge). I already own Boss DS-1 and CH-1 from my days when I wanted to learn bass and sound exactly like late Peter Steele. I’m looking for some RAT version, no one seems to be selling them these days in these parts!

Guitar turned up last week. Very nice.
Went away the weekend so got to play it for an hour last night.

The guy put 10s on but I think Im more used to 9s so may swap the string.
Its immaculate. If you told me it was brand new id believe it. Not a mark on it.

One issue - why oh why do these things have plastic nuts on? So im gonna get that changed.

Get an Earvana or some other compensated nut. You won’t regret it.

So went to see a rock band in my local last night.
Guy is playing this guitar and it looks and sounds like a Les Paul.
Upon closer inspection it’s one of these…

I get speaking to the guy during the break and I ask him about his guitar.
He said it’s the best £250 he’d ever spent. He said it plays beautiful and recommended I try one.

There’s a few reviews on YouTube and loads of people rave about them. Guy in this video said the nut could be a bit better and he isn’t a fan of the tuners due to colour but other than that he loves it.

Anyone played one?

So Thomann have sorted out sending stuff to the UK.
What you pay on website is now what you pay.

I then see this…

£200 Cheaper than UK.
Gonna have to start saving.

Im enjoying my ESP LTD EC1000 but would sell it for this.
Still think my Fender is best guitar ive played. Will take some beating.

Any bass players on TAN?

It’s been years since I touched a guitar, but recently I’ve been thinking about picking up the bass, and can’t decide what ‘beginner’ bass to go for. I don’t want to buy something so cheap I’ll end up replacing quickly, and at the same time, I don’t want to spend a fortune.

The Yamaha TRBX 174 looks like a decent middle ground, as does the Squier CV 70s, but if anyone has any recommendations, I’d love to hear them

@kone Good choices. Yamaha basses have excellent value for the money in my experience (their BB series as well btw, even the cheaper ones). The Squier Classic Vibe basses are excellent for the price as well and might be a bit more…well, classic…in any case, whether you buy new or used I’d personally try playing the actual bass you’re before buying. Everyone’s different, e.g. a neck that might feel great to play for me, might not for you.
And while both those brands have a reputation of decent quality control even in the affordable range, they occasionally do have outliers.
