Harvey ELLIOTT: 2022/23

Reading this, I had that “science, bitch” moment from Breaking Bad, so I just wanted to acknowledge it and thus pay my respects. I will need time to find a meaningful response to this, though! Just like Liverpool’s lack of balance this season, eh…

I need to pay more attention to what Harvey is doing to be honest. I’m just concerned that for all his good work etc. he’s still playing in a department that isn’t quite functioning right.

I need to get a better understanding of the whole situation.

Took me some time to realize that he is an elite talent but it will take me even more time to see a midfielder in him.

He looks wrecked. Too much being asked of him too soon

He actually still looks physically alright to me, but we’re probably at a point where the collective fatigue of everyone else means the lack of movement forces him into particular areas where he is simply of no influence.

He was trying to cover two players last night at times. I’m glad he got pulled in a way l, can’t keep playing him a full 90. Hopefully Carvalho is fine and we can rotate the two.

Called up for the U21 friendlies. Why this obsession for meaningless games.

Elliott seems to have suddenly become unsuited to play RCM in a 433. Why?

What roles will he play in the future?

  1. RCM in a 433 with a conservative RB
  2. RF in a 433
  3. X-Elliott-X in a 4231

I don’t think it’s unsuited.

It’s a bit of a trend these days. Left footed, mostly more offensive minded players, playing as the right sided more advanced #8 of the two, almost like a half-ten. Not all are success stories or equally good of course.

Odegaard, Elliott, Camavinga, Majer, McGinn, LoCelso, Vieira, Sucic, etc.

I don’t see any major issues with Harvey right now, he’s been one of the rare bright individuals so far this season.

It’s obvious and Klopp said that they see him more as a controlling type of player, that means more of a midfielder than a forward.

That doesn’t block him from sometimes covering the right sided forward role in a 4-3-3, the right winger/midfielder in a 4-2-3-1, etc. 2-3 positions in about 2 formations.

I don’t think he’s become unsuited, I think the right sided midfielder role became unsuitable for anyone, it was asking far too much and causing problems at both ends of the pitch, especially in defense.

@Zoran @Draexnael How do we solve the present/persisting dilemma which may not be due to him? We did very well with him playing RCM last season.

He’s 19, no panic on him not being a guaranteed starter with a change of formation.

Just spitballing, but just because we are going back to basics now in a 4231, doesn’t mean we won’t then go back to a 433 once we get some different personnel in.

His defensive stats are quite poor I’ve heard. If you throw inexperience on top of that and then add in a healthy dose of TAA and his defensive awareness, you have a pretty large hole to plug.

I think he would work better in that right sided role in a 4-2-3-1. At least then there’s a sitting midfielder that can provide some level of cover.

This lad can shoot :star_struck:, Tsimikas and Robertson should take shooting lessons from him.

How good was he, such a mature performance. He’s biggest area for improvement was the defensive side of the game but he was everywhere, so so good.

100% agree…yet football fans of other clubs don’t see how good he is. Weird.

Who cares about them.

Every set of fans don’t see certain things at other clubs, it’s just natural.

Yeah I was really impressed by him yesterday.

I didn’t think he had a great game. Poor control/decision making on a couple of good occasions and his lack of pace was exposed a few times.

Though I guess I am holding him to the same standard as all the other players and not as a 19 year old. So I may be being a bit harsh.
