Everyone was impressive yesterday, it was City the level of the team was bound to be raised…we’re not like Utd or Arsenal in the past where if we were on a bad run and faced a big side we cave. Spurs away in Klopp’s first full season I believe was the last time we’ve been battered by a top side and even then it was the first half alone. The Anfield crowd was a huge factor yesterday.
I can see the qualities he has and brings but I’m still to be convinced he’s ready for first team football at this level (it may just be the physical aspect)…if he can replicate the performance yesterday away to the lesser sides including in the change of systems then I’ll slowly start to change my mind on the kid.

He did mess up a couple of situations but so did Salah, Jota and Nunez, and Firmino got caught in possession a lot when we could have had a dangerous transition. It was a fast paced game, very difficult to play in.
Elliot still managed to make a few nice passes but more importantly he put a shift in defensively. He always tries but against City and against Newcastle if felt like his effort off the ball was productive, which hasn’t been the case in most of the other games he’s played in. If he can keep up that level of off the ball work then he’ll have a long career here as he is clearly good enough on the ball.

His skill set is probably more fitting of a Guardiola player than of a Klopp player but I’m really glad he’s ours. I’m not saying he’ll ever be as good as, say, Foden in his respective role but the approach they get from their coaches is similar in the aspect that they get to play different roles and different positions in the first team at a very young age.
Even though it’s a wretched season, Elliott doesn’t seem out of place in terms of mentality and technical quality. He might become a player similar to Bernardo Silva one day - a pressing nuisance with glue on his feet and ability to pick out a good pass.

Thiago gave it away twice in our defensive third but yeah I think the defensive approach was solid.
He scored against Rangers tho?
That goal was a fucking beauty, this kid is destined for big things if he can stay injury free.
His defensive game has improved, and he brings so much needed energy as well.

I still can’t believe he managed that sort of shot from that angle on his weaker foot. It reminded me a bit of Torres’ goal versus Mancs at Anfield in 2009, only this one seemed more difficult because it was on his weaker foot. Nice to see him getting among the goals, it’s good to share them among the squad and it will do wonders to his self-belief. Not that it needs working on…
He’s been good this season. Fresh, energetic. At the moment I prefer him in the team more than some of his young “rivals” like Jones and Carvalho. F*ck positions, just put him anywhere between the lines, he’s in that mood right now I feel.

He is a ball of energy, even if it’s not his day he tries his heart out, but he is a talent if nurtured right.
People forget he is 19.

He is how I would imagine myself playing for Liverpool and a lot of others, as he just gives everything always trying and wearing his heart on his sleeve
Hope this was the last time we’ve played him in CM because he is not one and never will be.
Needs a loan at a lower prem club where he’s guarenteed game time.
He’s been our best midfielder this season. Why are you sending him out on loan?

I don’t buy into this whole “best midfielder, best defender” rubbish, they’re all rotten as far as I’m concerned and we need to protect him. We’re throwing him out there in these huge games and he’s looking out his depth every time. Ok he’s scored a few goals good for him but we need players who can dominate a game, who can win games for us.
Is he better wide right in attack rather than centre right in midfield?
We’ll have to disagree on that one.

Who plays instead? Milner? That’s about as much as we’ve got
Good little players but not in a three man midfield…

He hasn’t the pace to play out wide. I’d deploy him as the most attacking of a midfield trio, in “the Thiago role” if you like, although he still has a fair bit to learn on the defensive aspect of that role.
