He doesn’t know when he is in danger (though there are a few like that).
I think further up would help that.

Fast enough to be a winger or wide attacker and good enough to run at opponents fullbacks.
Jürgen should play him in Sadio role but I think he looks more comfortable on the right.
Last night in the first 20mins, they had 2 men on him every time he had the ball and they were knocking seven shades out of him…must’ve been hard to produce anything…
Best option is committing to a 4-2-3-1 it keeps coming a 4-4-2 at times which I soon is the idea but it doesn’t it very defensively safe.
Though I don’t think there was a very cohesive set up all game.
Sneaking himself right just below the elite talents… Trent still insane offensively and basically breaks the algorithm.
Fascinating.
I’m honestly unconvinced by him in the midfield role he’s being asked to play but the diagram suggests I should think again.
Sadly, when he plays he honestly makes me nervous.
It’s fair to be nervous, this is his first full season with our senior team he is going to have rough edges.
A good comparisson was made in the Jones thread of him v’s Foden who is 22. If you then consider Elliot whose 19 and consider how good he is in the offensive sense you have to be very excited for how good he could be when he rounds out his game with better tactical nous defensively.
I think it’s also worth considering that defensively we haven’t been funtioning at all, and that isn’t down to him… Senior players being fatigued and at much lower performance levels shows a disfuntional team. I’m sure Elliot contribute to that but we were moving to a team which was more high risk high reward but behind that was a rock solid axis of Alisson, Van Dijk, Konate (was Matip) and Fabinho mopping up every counter and transition with ease… That’s simply not happening but hopefully with Konate back and Van Dijk not saving himself for the world cup we may post Christmas see that return and with that the nerves about Elliot I think will reduce.
Both Jones and Elliott need to spend more time in training learning from Alcantara - not the biggest of lads but I’d absolutely hate playing against him because it’s rare to see a player with technical ability of the highest order play with such zeal and intelligence in defence. Granted, that zeal made him look silly in tackling, especially while he was still finding his feet in English football, but his class had to shine through. I’d love it if these two learned to position themselves and read the game like Alcantara.
I understand people who are nervous when they see Elliott and Jones playing, especially during these crisis times, but seeing them, Nunez and hopefully Ramsay fully integrated and settled into next season’s side might be one of the best things that can happen (certainly when it comes to this rotten season).
Foden is often mentioned in these conversations and there is no doubt that he’s an outstanding young player, potentially one of world’s best, but Guardiola could afford to ease him into the side that was brimming with talent, that almost didn’t have any injuries and that was finely tuned like a grand piano. Klopp doesn’t have that luxury (and both lads had their respective injury issues). We’ll likely need much more patience with both, I hope it pays off big time.
I’d say more than encouraging… He’s some player.
I don’t know what that means, except maybe that he’s not much good at darts.
Long story short…
Offensively in the same bracket as De Bruyne…
Defensively… Much room for improvement (like the rest of the team).
You’d bet on him to follow up a missed double 20 with the double ten mind.
Elliot definitely has a good eye for a pass around the box but he’s nowhere near De Bruyne offensively yet - expected goals, expected assists, shot creation stats…De Bruyne comes out twice as strong as Elliot on all of these measures.
Elliot might be the best of the rest so far this season but that doesn’t mean he’s in the same bracket. De Bruyne is in a league of his own and has been for some time, probably only David Silva was on the same level in recent years.

Fair enough, it’s more about context of Elliot at 20 being at similar metrics than a 31 year old De Bruyne, who as you say is one of the best midfielders ever to play in the Premiership. That for me is very encouraging, especially considering Elliot has been doing it for a pretty disfunctional team.
I compiled stats a few weeks ago (Elliott picked up at least one assist since then) but they showed that De Bruyne is the 2nd best attacker from midfield in Europe so far this season (the leader was Feyenoord’s captain, Orkan Kokcu).
Elliott ranked a very respectable 45th - which is really good for a 19 year old, but also not all that comparable to De Bruyne yet.
De Bruyne definitely beats Harvey in the diving for penalties category also :0)
Another loan out to a championship team next week me thinks.
No loan but he should never play in midfield again.
Understudy to Mo. That’s his best position and the role that suited to him atm.
Not ready to be starting games regularly for a team who wants to be in top four.
