Harvey ELLIOTT: 2024/25

Maybe he should have utilized the entire squad at his disposal, which is something that Slot himself has admitted on numerous occasions.

Well last season, he didn’t get his chances. Not sure what that means for him going forward, but his lack of playing time had more to do with Slot’s inhibitions rather than his own.

I think he would have been a starter for a number of lower Premier League teams so he would have developed due to the amount of playing time helping to focus his mental and physical sides.

Going off Wiki, in 6 seasons at Liverpool, he has played 146 games, but that doesn’t break down how many of those games were starts, or off the bench and how many minutes he got in each of those games. But if would be safe to assume, were he at Bournemouth, he would likely have started the majority of those 146 games and I think would have seen the full 90 minutes.

Yeah surprised FSG haven’t sacked him yet. Spurs showed us what big clubs do when they win a trophy…

He would not have been able to displace anyone of last years starters even if he stayed at that level. He would have had to exceed his 23/24 season and improve on areas where he is weakest.

He’s being talked about like he’s Danns, not a player who is a few appearances from a century in the PL and I dont think people realize how unusual that is for a player who has only just turned 22. Foden was almost exactly Harvey’s current age when he got that milestone and was around the 50th youngest player in history (of the PL) to do it. So Harvey is on that pace having lost well over a season through injury.

Chris Pajak from Redmen TV, hit the nail on the head when talking about Robbo moving to Athletico Madrid.

He said he was torn between the selfish part him saying we should keep Robbo, as that is what is best for Liverpool, compared to the other side of him thinking that Robbo has been a great servant fot the club and if he wants the move, then the club should fair by him and let him have the move.

The above is the same for Harvey, no one wants to sell him and the selfish side of us should want to keep him as he is a great asset to the overall squad whether he gets the game time or not.

However, we all understand and feel that Harvey the person and the player may develop better by getting more minutes and to do so he may have to leave to get that playing time.

In the end what the club want should come 1st and that could be selling to raise additional funds for a more suitable player or keeping him and using what he has to offer.

I don’t think any fan wants to get rid of Harvey.

Me personally, I love the passion he shows and the way he always gives his all for the team and I would love him to continue devloping and to become a bigger success for the club, but in the end the club may see it different and selling may suit their needs better.

I think we should look at Harvey’s development as a footballer.

Just don’t see how he gets that in Liverpool.

I’m in the mindset that Elliott, like Quansah, needs regular gametime to kick on, and I think they’ll develop into very good players if they get that.

The problem is, Elliott only started 6 times last season, three of them meaningless, and two of them against lower league opposition:

Southampton (A) - Carabao Cup
Accrington (H) - FA Cup
PSV (A) - UCL
Plymouth (A) - FA Cup
Chelsea (A) - PL
Brighton (A) - PL

He was used as a sub 22 times according to this:
Appearances by Harvey Elliott in the 2024-2025 - LFChistory - Stats galore for Liverpool FC!

However, Slot said this in May:

“Harvey is one of the players who hasn’t had as much playing time as he maybe deserves, but like some others he’s in competition with so many good players that mainly I’ve chosen.

“Also partly because he was injured for a long time and I’ve been honest with him, the first part after he came back from his injury he wasn’t the same as he was before his injury. But the last few months he’s back to his old level again.

“There was no need for me to start with different players, but I think if you look at the amount of minutes that he had in the last one or two months and the time before, you can see it goes up already.

“So that tells you that we like, I like, him more now than I did the first months when he came back from his injury.”

It may suggest Slot does see a future for Elliott, but he didn’t want to change things too much. If Szoboszlai is seen as a back-up to Wirtz, then Elliott will leave IMO. If Szoboszlai is potentially dropped further back and pushed to rotate with MacAllister and Gravenberch, then we may offer him more game time as back-up to Wirtz.

Overall, I think he’ll leave, due to tactical reasons from Slot, and developmental reasons from Elliott. I hope we could do something with either a buy-back, as I think more game time could really enhance his development, or a sell-on clause at worse.

I think he will leave. Good player, but he barely featured last season and we have strengthened the squad since then. He can be a main man somewhere else, or a squad man here who only sees limited action. That’s how it looks to me.

I’m a bit gutted as he is a smashing player and a good red too, but the nature of being at the very top is that there will be some good players, who you very much like, that you end up parting company with.

Talking money seems a bit crass at this point, but obviously it’s an important factor, and if £40M or so were added to the coffers, I would imagine Slot would use it on someone he would play more than Harvey.

I think we can have our own thoughts and ideas.
Individuals count as well.
Some decisions can be good both for club and player.
We’ll see what happens. I just hope we don’t get petty about it all.

It still stands the club will do what is right for the club.

That could mean a variety of things that have been discussed and that may also include what is right for Harvey, nothing worse than having an unhappy player in the squad, not saying that Harvey would be unhappy or unruly!

It’s hard and impossible to imagine those ifs…

We don’t buy every young or relatively young player from clubs like Fulham or Brighton. Maybe he would be a target for us, maybe he wouldn’t.

It’s different if we judge him as a talent of certain level worth going for at the age of 16, as we did, and if we were looking at spending much more money when he’d be 22, compared to the level of players we have in his position(s).

To go from such a young age, to still being here, played a lot of games, won stuff… is already a success (and from a Liverpool fan point of view) in my opinion and nothing to be ashamed of if he leaves this summer. This is a top quality Liverpool side.

It’s certainly positive that he had a good tournament, but I’m not surprised he did. He even should, if his approach was right and there were extra reasons for it to be that way. Hunger for games, point to prove, attracting suitors.

I don’t think it will drastically increase a potential transfer fee if he’s moving though. It’s one of those decisions this summer that are still a little bit in the air. All sides have to sit together and decide what to do.
