Harvey ELLIOTT: 2024/25

From what we have seen Slot doesn’t rotate unless his prefered player is dead. Really no point bringing in someone who is more likely to rock the boat rather than keep some who puts his head down and wants to stay and fight for a place

I wouldn’t draw conclusions. Elliott’s missing time and us being top doesn’t mean that he isn’t needed. He was needed against Brentford; he will be needed again in the future, that much is certain.

As for Slot, who knows. My impression is that Elliott would find a role under any top-class manager and if a manager doesn’t fancy him that has more to do with his own peculiarities rather than Elliott’s own limitations. So far though, there’s little to suggest that Slot doesn’t like Elliott. He could have played him more but the same could be said for 2-3 other players as well.

I got the impression that he was “on the verge” both times - the last time hurts especially as I got the impression during the pre-season preparations that this could finally be the season for him, with a slightly different tactical setup that suited him and some promising performances.

His biggest problem is that he’s 5’7”. If he wants to be a number 10, we’re going to have to play two big lads behind him. It was notable that he came on as Mac Allister went off.

I don’t think that’s a problem at all.

Yeah, a lot of the greatest players, apart from GKs and CBs, have been short. If he’s good enough he’s tall enough.

It’s not about him being short. It’s what else there is in the team.

Mac Allister is only an inch taller than him. We can’t have 2/3 of our midfield under 5’10”.

Barcelona say hi, remember Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, also how tall was Suarez

You are talking about three of the greatest players to have ever played the game. I think Elliott is really good, but he isn’t quite at the level where you are happy to sacrifice the height for everything else he brings.

Suarez wasn’t that far off six foot by the way. I don’t know why there was the perception he was small.

Doesn’t matter, size can be irrelevant if you play the style of football to suit it

Yeah, and we don’t.

We did when he was involved in 2 goals on Saturday!

Mac Allister came off as he came on.

Again. This is not about Harvey. It’s the average height of the team.

Harvey and Mac Allister both on!

That was one of the best post-match interviews I’ve ever heard from a young player

Agreed very grown up. Good to hear the dynamics around the place, probably a reason we are doing well so far.
