Harvey Elliott (M/AM) to Villa, apparently (initial loan)

Klopp influence perhaps?

Maybe but he’s also just a pretty obvious fit for a club of their stature and their model

They make out it’s some complex formula that Stephen Hawking would struggle with :joy:

Do Leibzig pay big transfer fees or just receive them? Can you see them paying 45m for Harvey with a sellon/buyback clause?

Simons is their record at 50m euros. I think they’ve only gone above 30m one additional time

They have done it 5 times, Simons, Opende, Gvardoil and our very own Dom and Olmo with Lukeba been quoted at 30m Euro.

That’s sort of where I saw him, in a relatively competitive team in Germany.

Makes sense to go to a weaker league, pretty open styles, more time and space between the lines.

Plus, Leipzig’s shape/formation is good for him, they like these kind of players and know how to use them.

Nobody moves to Leipzig voluntarily. It’s a terrible area; there’s really nothing around it that’s even remotely attractive. And don’t get me started about the people there.

The football might be attractive to some, but the club itself ?There’s been enough discussion about that here. I really wouldn’t send any of our players there. I hope he find something else.

I presume RB held a gun to Jurgen’s head for him to agree to (presumably regularly?) visit Leipzig..

No…Jürgen rarely goes there. I highly doubt he would have even considered it if it meant having to live there. :joy: Leipzig is only a small part of his area of responsibility.

Edit
RB’s German office is in Munich btw

Oi! It’s only an hour from the greatest city in Europe!

I’ll take your word for it. I know it was former GDR but I hadn’t appreciated that was (now) that unappealing. Reddit’s ‘Ask a German’ (that font of all wisdom @Redditsux ?) argues that its is unfairly maligned.

https://www.reddit.com/r/AskAGerman/comments/1kr8eo8/why_are_people_telling_me_not_to_go_to_leipzig/

Ok, I admit I’m biased. I just find this area difficult, and the people there have a really annoying accent. Plus, there’s Red Bull and all that. I’d feel really sorry for Harvey if that happened, because there are probably much better alternatives.

It probably depends a lot on who you ask. Well, East Germans and RB fans will probably find it unfair, yes. :joy:

Edit

Btw Did I mention that they are very hostile to foreigners there?

From said page:

Leipzig is the most dynamic place in the east other than Berlin, well worth a visit.

The region was long the intellectual heart of Germany; up until the end of WWII, it was also geographically the heart of the country. Look up Germany’s great philosophers, writers, and composers - almost all of them came from or worked in this part of Germany, in places like Leipzig, Weimar, Jena, Eisenach, and Wittenberg. There’s so much culture, history, and architecture, often better preserved than in the west because the east was not subject to the same pressures of commercial development and population growth in the postwar years.

Worth mentioning that Leipzig has a special place in modern German history, as the protests that ultimately brought down the East German regime began in Leipzig. Definitely check out the Zeitgeschichtliches Forum, Nikolaikirche, and the Museum in der Runden Ecke to learn more about this history.

Ok, trust this page then and not me. I am fine with that. :joy: I’ve been there many times and I only speak out of personal experiences. You can’t compare that to Reddit knowledge tbf

Listen.. not all Germans are like that. Do I really have to go that way??

I’m out, please go to Reddit for further information :joy: or I hand over to the next German here who would like to discuss this further.

Leipzig is a nice small city, but it’s surrounded by a very AFD region.
I don’t know why Germans get so finicky about regional accents. I’ve heard people say that they could never be friends with someone from Saxony or Swabia because of the way they speak. It seems a bit intolerant to me. I’ve been friends with Brummies, Glaswegians and even people from Essex.
