Like his goal against Bournemouth was good for two things, the willingness to drive on and create it and the composure to finish it.
Honestly what has impressed me the most about him early days (and there are a lot including a beautiful first touch and playing with his head up and awareness of where his teammates are) is his strength and willingness to be physical with CBs.
For a lanky guy with a slender looking build heās shouldered a few defenders off the ball and kept control. Thatās something I didnāt expect to see from him at all
His play against Bournemouth reminded me so much of Fernando Torres.
I mentioned it during the game. For a player renowned for his ability to get on the ball in space I was really surprised by the way he chased balls down and physically challenged the CBs for it. But then with his blonde tips and even his running gate, him chasing a ball into the corner and dropping his shoulder in the defender wasnt just reminiscent of torres but actually looked like him
3 in 3 which is the first player since Dean Sturridge. One day his goal will actually be the winner
Genuinely think he can score from none easy positions is kind of the opposite of Nunez, not sure he can head but he was an unlucky bounce away from probably having a second last night.
You have to remember when comparing his start to Nunez is that Nunez missed several, I remember Hugo missing one and then two with his head but generally he seems to be able to create and score. Early doors but is a really exciting prospect.

Otherwise a great post
Curtis the enforcer!
Curtis thinking he is Anatolyā¦
Imagine if he had dropped that on the toe of Ekitikeā¦!!!
Yeah the heads okay⦠Just not the toe!
Hope he plays no part whatsoever.
I wonder what Hugo thinks about the Isak news. He could hardly have started his career better, but now heāll be second choice.
Heās definitely missing a bit of match fitness and has faded in the second half so far. With Isak also lacking a pre-season, heāll get plenty of minutes for the next month or two. We didnāt just spend 125m on a bench warmer though.
For a season or so i guess. I think Liverpool would have told both Isak and Ekitike that both of them are in their long term plans. With Afcon, thereās every chance that both of them make the playing xi as well. Letās see how the formation happens.
It isnāt exactly unheard of to go back to a 2 striker formation. City did that with Alvarez and Haaland.
Yeah, Iām sure thereāll be a plan, weāll just have to wait and see what it is.
I imagine Isak will be our first-choice no9, but Iām also sure Ekitike wonāt be a frequent bench-warmer.
I think it will be Gakpo who will share minutes with Hugo
You have to remember we will play 2 games a week until mid March.
Well, there have been injury concerns about Isak, so his minutes might need to be managed.
When did we last have two such top class CFs?
