Says the guy who has a picture of MO on his wall celebrating a goal by taking his shirt off :0)

It’s a truly shit rule, anyway.

Yeah, Salah seems a really clever human and all his moves appear intentional (contract comments, social media posts etc). He’s taken his shirt off in iconic moments and to create an atmosphere with team and fans. Has never done it in a less meaningful game or after a tap in. I also don’t remember him ever pointing to his own name

I would be 100% fine with second-yellow-for-removing-shirt incurring no suspension.

The offence was introduced in 2004, mainly because exposing the torso is offensive in some cultures.

Glad it’s not the Muslims this time, or else Mo would be in trouble, and let’s face it, this is definitely not a complaint from the gay community. So who are these sensitive cultures?

I thought it had been introduced to reduce time wasting?

That was one of the reasons, I just cherry picked the one I found strange.

Irish.

Watch out that will be reported by @Quicksand

(And fair enough too - we’re not the only ones who will burn if we go topless).

Haha @WeeJoe

“I get an even suntan (burn) on back and front” said Norman Whitesides. Irish footballer.

Here’s one of my favourites for you (somewhat off topic, mind. Perhaps as a Nod to Hugo, I’ll say this song shows the same self belief he possesses):

Where’s that stupid Bobby “gonna take my shirt off… actually no, I won’t!” celebration when you need it.

:joy:

And yes, it absolutely is a shit rule.

I saw on Sky that there were four main reasons for the ban according to IFAB:

  1. It could wind up opposing fans.
  2. Time wasting.
  3. Avoids political messages (on undershirts)

And, the actual reason:

  1. Shirt sponsors

Yeah the rule was brought in officially in 2004 but it was something they had been debating for years already at that time. People will often point to Fowler and his “Support the 500” shirt as a precipitating factor and while it was, but that was far back as 97 so it gives a sense of how many different sorts of incidents there were that got officials grumbling hence there being no single reason the rule exists..

He needs to be careful because if he continues getting ridiculous yellow cards like both ones he received (especially the second) where you think surely someone can’t be that stupid is what opens up investigations for potential betting scandals.
