It goes back further than that. Everton have lost the most games in top division history.
To be fair, it at least proves that they have played in the top flight for most of their history.

Yeah it’s one of those stats which probably works better with the PL era as the other one just means they’ve been around the longest.
It’s staggering they’ve never been relegated from the PL (not familiar with their pre-PL league history vis a vis relegations), considering how shite they’ve been for such a large part of the past couple of decades.
Hopefully next year is their year.
They have the current second-longest run in the top flight (since 1954), behind Arsenal (top-flight since 1919) and just ahead of us (1959).
:0)
Why did that take so long?
Let me guess, they were gathering evidence
It took them a while to convince the authorities they’d actually won a match.
Did they get a trophy for that win?
Just remind me not to phone my brother tonight… Although at this rate when I finally go with him to a Tranmere match it will be against Everton…
Everton are £+50m in net spends this window, does this win them Transfer Window Trophy?
It certainly makes them favourites for the Relegation Cup…
I know the parlous state of their finances and impending FFP breach have made this necessary, but I can’t see a way a shite team that barely escaped going down on the last day, who have gone on to weaken themselves further, has a chance in hell of staying up.
Tarkowski is a good signing.
We’ll see what a season of playing alongside Michael Keane under Lampard does for him
It largely puts them in the same crap position they were in when Benitez took over - no transfer budget and make do and mend. Is Lampard going to get it in the neck from the fans this season or was that a special ring of Hell reserved for Rafa?
I suspect Lampard will be kicked out by Christmas, then rince and repeat.
Thing is they stayed up on Duncan Ferguson tactics and then he left, will Lampard go to those tactics again to grind out results and will it work.
Depends on Calvert-Lewin I think. Without him I don’t see where the goals are coming from.
Everton is playing with the usual thuggery vs Arsenal in a friendly. Jesus is limping off at half time from a bad tackle. 2 goals behind for the Bitters.
Frank now has a chance to impose his methods with a real pre-season.
