And I know itās only the Dutch league but he got 10 in 27 whilst on loan there so clearly has some goal scoring capabilities.

The price fluctuates on the buyer. Liverpool are involved? Put the price up.
It is getting so ridiculous that Iād almost like to see a blind process, where the selling club has a price, and the buying club is not revealed to the selling club.
The player and his representatives obviously know, and they work out their wages and contract and so on, but the actual price for the player is set by the selling club, and they donāt suddenly move it around depending on who the buyer is.

Yeah, I think this is the right way as a club we should be looking at it. I think even those who are skeptical of Minteh most would think that his floor is somewhere higher than ācould do a jobā. With the lad from PSG there is a lot more uncertainty on what his floor will be in the prem and I think that requires some meaningful reflection in the price. If you canāt get PSG to that number then it makes sense to pivot to someone less of a risk at that valuation

Especially as heās out injured for 4 months. To be honest if we actually want him Iād go back in January - if heās recovered - with the aim of unsettling the player so he wants to leave next summer and we can pay less for him. Brighton can get fucked, sick of playing nice in the market with these guys only for them to shit all over us

Itās an argument over potential. PSG donāt want to miss out on the upside of af a lad who might be worth 100m in three years.
I reckon they would deal at Ā£35m with a sell on clause that nets them Ā£20m if we sell him for Ā£100m. But if weāre not willing to include a sell on, then they want the Ā£20m now.

There really isnāt a reason to buy potential if that potential is more expensive than the proven thing. Guarantee there are bunch of players we can sign who will be more effective next season that Mbaye and cost significantly less than him.
Look at the likes of Tzolis at Arsenal - no one was hyping him up, cost just over Ā£30m, and heās got 3 or 4 assists in his first two games.
Mbaye might go on to be a superstar. Or he might be an average PL player. He might be shite.
Youāre supposed to buy potential because its cheaper. Paying a premium because a guy might become good (especially one who has red flags around his entourage) is just bad business and bad squad building.
Fuck this one off, develop Ngumoha and sign someone who will make an immediate impact.

Agreed. Donāt think we are in the position to be gambling 40 to 50 mil on teenagers who havenāt had a standout season or two and with so many question marks

i think most teams would be ok with that, but seems like psg want what they want and thus teams, not just lfc , are not budging on the evaluation. kid is a subs sub (comes on after the sub has come off) at present and is still very raw. at least with minteh you know what you getting NOW as opposed to just potential
Itās a bit like wanting your have your cake and eating it.
We donāt want this kid and heās yours for thirty million. But if you turn him into a Ā£100m player we expect a slice of that.

I read somewhere in the German media that PSG had negotiated a buy-back clause with Leverkusen (a fixed amount after two years)āsomething we absolutely do not want. That likely explains the huge price hike and why we stepped back for the time being.

Isnāt this what we do with most of the young lads we sell? At a smaller scale for sure but most promising lads are going with a 20-30% sell-on fee.
What I canāt understand is how theyāre pricing him. Theyāve made it clear they donāt want him and donāt think heās worth the effort to develop but theyāre pricing him like a first team ready player when he clearly isnāt.
If PSG came in for Ngumoha I can imagine us demanding that kind of fee for him because we donāt want to sell. Theyāre asking for this whilst actively trying to push him out the door.
