Ibrahima KONATE: 2024/25

Eh???

4-6 Weeks.

Probably back by mid January.

Yeah you add two league cup games and the FA cup that would easily get you 15 for mid Jan.

Donā€™t have too many hopes with Quansah but itā€™s vital that we get through December without dropping too many points.

The club should be looking at getting reinforcements in the January Window. We canā€™t let this opportunity of winning the league slip because we donā€™t have sufficient injury cover. Another CB at the very least.

Ffs Quansah was excellent last season and started ahead of Ibou, this year, everyone makes mistakes

Exactly. Heā€™s very young. Especially for a CB.

And he wasnā€™t even dropped for mistakes, he got replaced because Delap was beating him in duels. Now that the season has progressed a little bit itā€™s become clear that Delap does that to a lot of good CBs.

Did you think through this at all? Through what mechanism would they do that?

Didnā€™t Arne say it was a positioning/aggression thing too? I remember he was stressing very clearly that it was the entire team that was failing on that frontā€¦

Retrospective punishment. It was a cynical series of fouls aimed to injure the player. He needs to be punished so as to act as a deterrent.

How? It was an incident on the pitch that the referees (VAR included) quite clearly decided wasnā€™t worthy of further punishment.

You donā€™t know that for sure.

Iā€™m not bothered so much about the Ipswich game. It was the Brighton league Cup game which somehow gives the sense that heā€™s not adapted to the slot way of playing yet.

What is this ā€œslot way of playingā€ for centre-backs that is so drastically different to JĆ¼rgenā€™s playing style that Quansah is apparently struggling with (as opposed to simply being rusty)?

I think Jurgen wanted his CBs to release the ball quicker. Less time on the ball. Slot wants the CBs to take some time before playing the ball forward.

Quansah too often than not has been guilty of playing the risky adventurous passes.

Itā€™s not just about him being beaten in duels. Itā€™s his decision making and we lose the ball a lot more when heā€™s in the pitch.

Evidence? There should be quite clear statistics of this if it were the case.

Matipā€™s runs quite clearly say otherwise.

Iā€™ll try and look up his forward pass completion percentage.

Until he made one bad pass he and Gomez were doing very well and the deflection is just one of those things.

Also, Slot wants us to make the vertical pass into our midfielders, Virg did it twice against Madrid, where it got cut out and we didnā€™t get punished and against Southampton he also got caught trying to dribble through the press resulting in the penalty!
