Ibrahima KONATE: 2025/26

That was honestly what he tried to do. It was that bad of a touch.

I watched that slide from Saturday. He laid down to block the cross. There is no tackle there

If you watch the Leeds players’ feet during that play, he pulls his left leg back to strike the ball and realized that the cross is blocked. So he steps/leans into Konate, initiates the slightest of contact with his plant foot and dives over his legs.

Not nearly as cut/dried a penalty as it’s made out to be. I don’t actually fault Konate for the attempt, if he was a foot further away they would have called it a simulation

Put it this way. Salah would never get this pen

It was a penalty.

Look at his body position sliding in. Its the worst attempt at a tackle you can ever see. I’m usually bemoaning decisions against Liverpool, but this was a nailed on penalty.

These two statements are not mutually exclusive.

Watching it live and the first angle, I didn’t think it was a pen. When I saw it from another angle, then I saw it and understood. One of those ā€œ51%ā€ decisions.

And yes, as an isolated decision, Konate did a stupidity. Not the first one this season. Virgil had his own few, but Konate’s been the one largely below standard.

51% …
It was nailed on. 100%
And I’m saying that as someone who regularly argues such decisions

As soon as you see the angle where Konate gets none of the ball, it’s only going to go one way. The Leeds player does certainly play for the pen, but Konate can’t really have any defence.

Konate must be thanking his lucky stars for Salah taking all the heat away from him. That’s what I call a good teammate :rofl:

Mo saw that abject performance and went: ā€œDon’t worry bro, I got youā€:rofl:

A damn good portion of the response to Mo’s comments has been sympathy given how shit Ibou and Cody has been. In some ways it has highlighted their bad form

Have seen far worse than this particular tackle

Note that Konate appears to have been robbed of a goal today for some bullshit UEFA interpretation of a handball

I’ve seen far worse tackles yes, but the decision to slide tackle was stupid in the first place.

And I have no complaints over the goal being disallowed tonight. It was difficult to see what happened from first angles, but then it was clear that it first hit Ekitike’s hand and then Virgil’s head.

Plus the penalty we got… but hey, some of those you get and some you don’t. We did well enough to merit a bit of luck tonight.

He needed to keep his feet/legs in line to with his slide to just block the cross, but he moved his foot towards the ball possibly trying to hook it and got it majorly wrong and caused the contact, penalty all day.

Looked nervous but well played today no abject errors, baby steps but I’ll take them.

One observation, is Ibou carrying more timber compared to previous seasons?

I’ve been very critical of Konate this season because he’s deserved it. But he had a pretty solid game against Inter and was very unfortunate to have his goal ruled out. So, I’ll give him a ā€˜well done’, on this occasion.

I think that’s LFC’s modus operandi for their players, put them on a training regimen including muscle building. Not a lot of Charlie Adam’s in the league anyone but for the most part our players are trained hard

From watching our games, it seems apart from Dom, our players aren’t looking like the can las 90 mins

No, Wirtz looked shattered 10 minutes after coming on last night!

Overplayed and under-rotated. Not what you’d expect to see after dropping Ā£400mil in a single window.
