Ibrahima KONATE: 2025/26

Dejan Lovren has entered the chat

Lovren vs West Ham at Anfield October 2015 - 0-3
Lovren vs Spurs at Wembley (?) 2017 - subbed in the first half.

Seriously though, agree with you. Last night’s performance was by Konate was similarly dismal. Top 3 with the above for sure.

Obviously that Spurs game is the one people remember, but this was way worse if only for the deer on ice skates nature of so many of the mistakes. I think there were 3 separate incidents where he just missed the ball completely when trying to kick it. You probably wouldnt expect a pro to experience that 3 times in a season. There was one where he swung his foot at it, missed, fell over, and then knocked the loose ball away from Gomez putting their forward in on goal by heading it while lying on the floor.

Racial abuse directed at Ibou. Believe that the abuses are coming from Gala’s supporters due to Oshimen ran into Ibou’s knee and suffered a broken arm. Gala’s coach blamed Ibou at the post match press conference added fuel to the fire.

Stay strong Ibou. Racism has no place in football and in life.

By the way, I’ve seen quite a few racist attacks online, but this one against Ibou is truly disgusting and among the worst I’ve ever encountered. It’s hard to believe that Gala isn’t taking it seriously.

The Gala higher up double down on the issue, instead of toning it down.

Galatasaray secretary Eray Yazgan: Liverpool hasn’t even apologized [for Noa Lang], and on top of that, we see them trying to deflect the issue by bringing up imaginary statements they claim were made on social media against their own player, Konate. Liverpool is trying to change the subject.

“We can say many, many, many, many things,” he said when asked about the tough campaign under Reds boss Arne Slot.

“People are going to say we bring in new players, (but) many things happened like we lost a player when we started the season. Many things happened to us this season.”

“What people will have to understand, and this is my point, before we won the league last season, we had just built the team to win the Premier League at that moment. That’s part of the success, that’s the way to success.”

“Now that we have brought in new players, of course they are not going to perform straight (away) from the first game. This is what I have said to many players, we just have to be relaxed as this is part of the success.”

“We bring new players, we will adapt, we will try to work and understand each other all together, and at a point in time we will win trophies and we will have success.”

Speaking to ESPN FC, Konate added: “When we win the league or the Champions League, people will forget every bad season we had.”

“We won the league last season but two seasons before that we were (qualified) in the Europa League. But people don’t talk about this any more. This is just part of the success.”

Few reports around that he’s close to signing a new contract.

There seem to have been reports for a while. It would be good, as we don’t want to have to be forking out for another senior centre back.

The report is from Hugo Delom and Loic Tanzi at L’Equipe who are supposed to be reliable for French players.

I’d be fine with him staying. A four of VVD, Leoni, Jacquet and Konate is decent. Gomez might leave but I’d rather not have tons of upheaval again and I think there’ll be a few changes in attack and midfield and maybe a new fullback or two.

Agreed. We have other recruitment needs this summer, and they won’t be cheap. Plus, Virgil and Gomez only have a year left, so losing Ibou would mean that we’ll only have Leoni and Jacquet signed for 2027 and beyond. Bringing back Ibou makes that impending problem less daunting.

I don’t know who the former is but if the latter is indeed one of the sources, then my opinion is that it’s more likely to be done than not, I think he’s a really good source.

It’s a shame that this season has made me kind of ambivalent about whether Konate stays or goes but that could be applied to a lot of our players, unfortunately. In fact, the main reason why I’d like him to stay is because he’s a familiar face and he could help Ekitike and Jacquet, possibly another French player or two, get settled here.

That said, maybe a different coach and a different tactical approach could bring the best out of him, we’ll see, also when it comes to the mental aspect. He’ll never be a 10/10 centre back but I’d be stoked if he was alternating between 8/10 and 9/10 performances, provided he stays.

Disappointing. I don’t think he has the right mentality.

If Virg was 2 years younger and Gomez not made from biscuit then Konate would be one of the first out the door for me.
As things stand we are in a precarious position at CB. An ageing VVD, Gomez a crock, Leoni and Jacquet young and inexperienced.
It just isn’t the right time to replace Konate.

And here we go, in his 5th season with us, he’s currently on 43 games played, the most he’s played in a single campaign. And arguably his worst one so far. Last night again, he wasn’t convincing at all.

A year ago I would pleased with this, now I am hoping its so we can retain some value instead of him walking for free.
