Yep
And we had time to sort this out.
We knew Van Dijk would be the age he is and slowing down. We knew the contracts situations.
Just so amateur. Same with the Salah thing and lack of replacement here now, ready to go.

Your right it appears their base wages are a bit lower than us, and I imagine none of them are hitting performance bonuses after finishing 10th, although I imagine for a buying club itās still a similar problem. If a player has 50m owed to them on their contract they will want a contract that gets them that same amount of money, whether it is over 7 years or 5.
This is a key point. Konateās team probably knew that with Slot around there is no chance of meeting those performance-related pay upgrades and so probably wanted more guaranteed money up front.
Lets not kid ourselves. This is entirely about money
Supposedly thereās a release clause in his contract that mentions us and Madrid, but who knows.
I donāt see us signing a left footed LCB of that calibre while Virgil is here anyway.
Are Chelsea contributing to those wages once the player is sold?
I could image FSG being reluctant to do that which may make it harder for them to move players on at higher fees?
Maybe the plan is to bring in someone like Van Hecke this summer and buy Quansah back in 2027. So, going forward weāll have Quansah, Van Hecke, Leoni and Jacquet, which is a young, inexperienced but promising rotation at CB.
All RCBs though.
We really need a strong LCB coming in somewhere in the next 12 months, which I why I brought up Schlotterbeck.
Yes, itās not ideal and Schlotterbeck would make a lot of sense, but he has renewed with Dortmund. Perhaps Jacquet can feature there as well. I remember reading somewhere that he can play both left and right.
I just doubt we will be carrying four CBs that we paid over Ā£50m each for. Itāll likely be three + non-CB who can fill in. For some reason that seems to be a squad build that Liverpool have favored recently.
Surprising how much easier negotiations go when youāre winning and on an upwards trend
Thatās not really true though. You have to pay through the nose to keep together a successful team, as Arsenal are going to discover.
Donāt forget the recent and probably reliable links with Van Hecke. Right-sided centre back whoās of the ārightā age, has pretty decent PL experience, is aggressive and confident on the ball and has only one year left on his contract if Iām not mistaken - on paper, it makes sense. Itās probably not a coincidence that those links had emerged prior to news breaking that Konate wouldnāt extend.
Van Hecke would be perfect.
It goes beyond that. It goes as far back as Emre Canā¦
With Can it was widely reported that he wanted a release clause. And Liverpool were not willing to entertain that. We just donāt do clauses full stop and weād rather let the player go for free than compromise.

It was reported at the time that we were open to the possibility of a release clause but it had to be balanced against what that fee was and his wages we were paying.
17 year old Ngumoha is too young and inexperienced to be regularly relied upon, and playing him may get him injured. Giving him a pathway that he wasnāt ready for created a bad situation and is a mitigating factor for Slotās abysmal management of this club.

it wasnt so long ago that you were demanding he be played as he was currently our best attacker
you were even arguing that if Barca can play Yamal, we should play Rioā¦
We need to stop buying all these Dutch players. There are only two things I canāt stand in this world. People who are intolerant of other peopleās cultures, and the Dutch.

Outside of Enzo and Caicedo, the reporting on their wage structure is their model with the young players is to bring them in on a relatively low basic, but one that escalates aggressively over the length of their contract. The idea is if it doesnt work out the club isnt hamstrung by a player on a salary other clubs wont pay, and if they are still at the club after 4 years when they become a top earner they will have earned it.
I think there are a lot of flawed assumptions in there, but thatās reportedly how they have so many players without being crushed by the salaries.
