That’s how it starts
. The kids don’t know any better, of course, but with that one stupid ‘like,’ Dom managed to get an incredible number of people worked up—both about the situation and about him. It might be a bit of an overreaction, sure, but that’s just how people are—especially since two players have already gone down this path.
“Continues to engage…”.
Yeah, engaging with some of his best friends in the game, liking a picture of one them making a new career step. How dare he.
There’s more wrong with people overanalyzing these things.
He’s a bit of a numpty to be fair. But he’s our numpty (for the time being), and I don’t see much wrong on this occasion. ![]()
Losing two players for free has caused this forum PTSD. Sporting reasons must be the primary driver behind player transactions, not financial ones.
Salah’s last two extensions came with mere months remaining in his deal at the time. According to the prevailing logic, we should have got rid of him years before then, to get some value back. That would have worked out wonderfully well.
I do t think that’s a fair comparison.
With Salah there was a confidence that this was his club, and he wanted to sign a new deal - it was just a matter of getting the agreement.
The concern with players like Dom is that there is an intention to dick around for two years and move on a free. It’s not unreasonable to expect him to sign an extension this year or we sell him. He is an £80m midfielder and we can’t lose all our top players for no money in.
If he plays at peak performance for those remaining two years, the financial ‘damage’ to the club is not so great, particularly if the club recruitment going forward plans for that eventuality through better management of squad and youth progression.
How do we decide which players want to dick around, and which are serious about staying? By SM posts?
There’s no doubt that Salah loves Liverpool, but both times it took a king’s ransom for him to stay on. TAA who had been at the club since he was 9 years old, was branded a turncoat for wanting to try something new.
Where do we draw the line?
Those that get worked up over that are imbeciles, they are former team mates and still friends!
Also, I think its funny that for much of the time FSG have owned the club they have been lambasted for following either a “buy to sell”, “sell to buy” and now “letting everyone go on a free which we can’t afford” policy.
Re-sign with two years left, or you’re gone. That’s where I would draw the line.
Very easy to say or wish for certain things while a lot of it also depends on something which we can’t control; the market and interested buyers.
We don’t get to choose to sell for certain amounts and exactly when we want it.

Well we have to take some stand, its obvious Szob is going to try this as well.
Then its a point of mitigation, as in, getting what we could not have got otherwise, opposed to walking on a free, is completely better. Also, there is then the prospect of selling them to another club making it harder to get back to the grand architect of evil, Real. Im all for even getting a side deal in place with Inter and AC. Because this carry on is saying to the players market we are a soft touch, and LFC needs to send a different message. The Parma kit isnt far from Real’s Dom.
Maybe we are taking some stands (not only in the fees we’d want but also the wages we’re prepared to go for), we don’t have enough details what happens behind the scenes.
I don’t know if Szobo will try to do this, it’s always a question for both parties where they stand. Right now, I wouldn’t say Real need a midfielder like him, unless Valverde is leaving (I don’t think he is). And let’s see how we even make the team work with him and Wirtz (and Ekitike and Isak longer term).
There is value also in time on the pitch, not only in numbers once a player leaves. If we talk about numbers, maybe the other party could ask a legit question to the club how it exactly structures it’s wages (also something we don’t know).
And as always, many factors, football and non-football, can play a part in players deciding if they want and how much they want to remain here. Two players leaving for Real Madrid (although really it doesn’t matter where it is, especially if it’s to a foreign league) on a free in a shorter space of time is a bit frustrating, but I can live with it. I do understand that Real is Real.
Every deal for me has it’s specificity.
I don’t think there is something outstandingly genius to do in order to prevent much more these things from happening compared to the side effects it brings. It’s easy to say if you don’t prolong by this or that time, you’re sold. Really? To wherever we decide to and for the amount we want? And what about team cohesion with so many changes so often?
