With all the club’s Milner has been at , including City. To say that he will be generally remembered as a Liverpool player is a credit to what he’s offered the club.
Would have loved to see him see out his career with us , but it’s what it is.

Was only a bit part player in City’s winning teams whereas he was crucial for us… With him starting as a wingback and playing all around the pitch for us.
He’ll go down as a Liverpool great and be identified with this club more than any other for sure.
That undervalues what he did and was at City. In a large squad full of talented players he was always a valued and much used player, just one whose profile was typically lower than players he was ostensibly competing with. His reputation there, among the fans and the media, never matched his importance, but he was always among the most used players they had there. I will always remember that 3-2 win in 2014. In the first half we were so much superior to them, and Phil’s winner came against the run of play after they had turned the tide at half time. They quickly became much the better side and after equalizing looked the more likely to get the winner. The main driver of that change - introducing Milner at half time.
One of the unfortunate narratives that developed after his move was city moved him on when what happened was that his importance to them was recognized by the club and reflected in the contract extension they offered him but he preferred to come to us.

Agree. But I’d like to think Milner values his time at Liverpool more than his time at City.

I remember when we signed him thinking he was an older player coming to see out his last few years at Liverpool. Now here we are 8 years later and he’s leaving to see out his last few years somewhere else.

The good thing about this is that at least we know he’s leaving and we’ll be able to give him the send off he deserves. Hopefully someone can come up with a good song for him before the last game of the season at Anfield in 2 weeks time. That’s going to be an emotional afternoon with Bobby leaving as well. Truly the end of an era.
He obviously wants the PL appearance record - he is 34 behind Gareth Barry. With a fair wind he can do that in two seasons, but not here.
