Thought we were signing him for £15m!

How does Ramsay end up at Rangers. I’m not sure what Juve get out of this deal as they are paying all his £200k a week so haven’t got him off the books?

It’s around double, £400k! And yeah, Juve will still pay him the bulk of that amount.

Ramsey at one point was the highest paid British footballer. Is that still the case?

Interesting window overall, dominated by a handful of huge deals (Vlahovic, Torres, Diaz and Guimaraes) but more interestingly is perhaps the number of loans of highly priced assets that clubs just haven’t been able to shift. Perhaps a sign of the financial pinch hurting that non-elite tier of clubs or top tier clubs desperate not to discard costly assets on the cheap.

van de beek - £40m
Martial - £58m
Diallo - £37m
Brian Gil - £21m
Lo Celso - £27m
Ndombele - £52m

Spurs and United showing just how disjointed their recruitment and management has been in the last few seasons by sending out players who have recently cost them in the region of £100m each on loan. Okay, for United Diallo is still young but you’d have thought with the Greenwood stuff going on and Lingard desperate to leave they could have used him and let Lingard go instead. Spurs on yet another churn cycle with Alli out the door too and whilst Kulusevski could be a good pick up, it’s an 18 month loan and who knows who the manager will be by the time that comes around but I suspect it might not be Conte.

As for Arsenal, they’ve done pretty well to get Aubamayang off the books but haven’t brought in a replacement and Lacazette is off for nothing in the summer so all of a sudden they look a little thin up top.

Got to say it’s a decent window for us but not perfect. Obviously wrapping up Carvalho would have been a very nice cherry on the cake that was the Luis Diaz signing. But in terms of outgoings, again we’ve failed to shift Origi or Minamino and Phillips and Williams have only gone on loan rather than permanent deals. Not a bad start to the Ward era but still room for improvement and work to do in the summer.

Teenger maybe, at the time.

Spurs have got rid of everyone they brought in during the last 18 months. Which shows you how bad they are at transfers. Signed 2 relative unknowns. Will they make a difference to them?
Surprised United have done nothing but not selling Pogba or Lingaard is crazy. They are losing a lot of money in the summer letting them walk.
Arsenal must have the smallest squad in the league yet have 8 out on loan, let Chambers and Auba go yet bring in a right back from USA who isnt coming until the summer. Arteta taking a massive gamble here as they havent scored in last 4. Also how on earth do Barca keep doing these deals? They are skint. Can they even register Auba?

Everton. I think this window sums them up of the last few seasons. Van Der Beek could be a very good signing for them but Ali (fee that could rise to £35m) is a typical Everton signing. Been off his game for 2+ years so they sign him. Find that one really odd.

Newcastle - have they done enough to stay up. Im not so sure. Guimaraes - everyone says he is decent but they agreed a fee with a French teams striker for £33m but the player didnt want to go so it fell through.
Does Woods have enough goals in him? Targett is solid as is Trippier if unspectacular.

I think we were linked with him strongly some years ago before he broke his leg, or am I confusing him with someone else in Portugal? Seem to be the first of several big priced Portuguese players we were linked with but didn’t sign under FSG.

The moment you know you’re definitely finished.

I think this is a fairly long time trend, which I put down the concentration of wealth among the so called super league clubs at the top. Most the top clubs who spend a lot will end up at least one high priced, incredibly well paid who doesnt make it. Selling is not an option because no one else can afford his salary and so loan are the only options.

There was a lot of wildly conflicting reporting on just how much he was making on that deal with Juve drastically downplaying it. I suspect the discrepancies like in sign on fees Juve werent factoring into what they were calling his salary, and bonuses (that he surely didnt hit).

Very true. And those that are chopping and changing managers with no underlying structure are finding that they often have more than one of these duds to shift. Even funnier is Everton have a bunch of these of their own and are now taking on others for them too.

Another trend we’re seeing more of, top clubs using the bosman ruling on a level of player that would rarely be allowed to go out of contract in the past. Of course they think they’re being prudent by not spending on the fee and rolling signing on bonuses into huge weekly wages. But when that doesn’t work out, no one is willing to take those levels of wages on.
