January Transfer Window 2022

Bournemouth probably have a better chance to survive in the premier league than norwich. Probably a better career move.

Kevin Ruegg from Hellas Verona to Lugano on loan.
Sergio Cordova from Augsburg to Salk Lake on loan.
Mahir Emreli from Legia Warsaw to Dinamo Zagreb on a free.

Yaser Asprilla from Watford to Envigado on loan.
Taofeek Ismaheel from Lorient to Valerenga on loan.

I was just thinking to myself about which summer signing has made a significant impact on the league.

Ramsdale has been a goalkeeper (although his performances have been exaggerated).
Jose Sa has done a good job for Wolves.
Maxwell Cornet has had his moments at Burnley.

Has anyone actually shone?

Lukaku and Grealish have been trash.
Ronaldo, Varane and Sancho have arguably made Man Utd worse not better. I feel like my suspicion that Varane is one of the most overrated centre backs of this generation has been confirmed.

I think I could probably put up a solid argument that 19 year old Tino Livramento is signing of the season for Southampton.

And yet in a few months time, some pundit is still going to put Man Utd ahead of Liverpool in their pre-season rankings because he got excited that they signed a bunch of players again.

Most signings are shit.

That lad they have from chelsea has had his moments too.

You confused me for a moment because they also got Livramento from Chelsea, took me a second to realise you meant Broja!

Yes, Broja, thanks couldnt remember his name. Hadnt realised Livramento was from there too!

What an acadamy they have!

It really is a good question. Certainly among the teams challenging towards the top there has been no player who has made a clear difference. Romero at Spurs (albeit only on a loan to buy) hasnt flopped, but Spurs dont look any better for him playing than compared to any of the guys who were already there.

You can make a decent argument that despite having limited impact on the field so far Konate looks the best signing among those teams due to what he looks like he’ll bring in the following years. That is not a good statement on how well the supposedly big sides spend their money

Diaz has made more of an impact than some of him and he’s only been here half a month.

Connor Gallagher has looked ok, another Chelsea youth player, imagine if they actually brought these lads through and nurtured them instead of buying about 5 new players a year.

The fact they brought on an 80m keeper to save pens and started with an AM upfront leaving about 150m worth of striker on the bench.

FIFY.

Their recruitment team seems to be like ours when Brendan was here. It is incredible to think that with their academy, and their ability to spot players like Mendy, they pay vast sums of money for players who are either a poor fit, or not as good as you would expect for that price.
