The move for Chris Wood is a good sign imo. It shows that Newcastle have no coherent plan whatsoever. The 20m is just short change for them, and thus completely irrelevant for them, but buying a 30-years old who doesn’t play to the strengths you’d expect Howe to play smacks of 'Well, let’s sign someone. Anyone in fact… ’
The Digne deal is a bit more enigmatic. Is he worth that much money? But if he is, why do Everton sell him?

Stevie really is putting together a half decent squad.
Digne a big upgrade on Targett. Along with Cash, that’s a decent pair of fullbacks.

I see him as a smart signing actually. He’s a half decent finisher, that would score more in an attacking system, that Burnley don’t really employ. And if they fail to stay up, he’s ideal for the Championship too.

Pony up Burnley! In all seriousness though, there were links earlier with West Ham weren’t there? Would very much prefer for Phillips to go somewhere better than Burnley…
It also is weakening one of their direct opponants for the relegation spots. He has been fairly key to how Burnley have played over the last few years, so will need urgent replacing if Burnley have any hope of staying up
