Hard to get your head around the fact Joe is made of biscuit when you look at that photo.

Honestly, I would keep him well away from the RB spot unless we are in a desperate situation now that we’ve missed out on Guehi. Make CB the priority where there is limited running, and try to get his body together through training, the occasional stint in a back 3 at the end of games, and as a CB in some cup games.

He’s pretty important now.

I didn’t expect he had a six pack to match Salah’s.

VvD actually waved them over to the LFC supporters side to celebrate, but Isak was already sprinting towards the opposite corner.

Yeah, that’s one of the signs of someone not used to scoring (in a while). He’ll get there again.

:joy:

Gutted for Gomez that he’s injured again. Hopefully it’s just something minor and he was taken off as a precaution but it never seems to be the case with him. Makes the decision to sell Quansah and not to sign a Centre back for the last few seasons (other than an 18 year old) all the more negligent.

Isn’t this the sort of thing that happens when you don’t play enough then are asked to play too much.
I am still very wary of this idea of Slots to run players into the ground before any rotation. It seems doo unhealthy and indicates a lack of thought and knowledge of the intensity in the EPL.
Ok we all know Gomez is a biscuit but 20 mins here and there I am sure would have helped him and helped to prevent this sort of situation.

We know that not signing a centre back wasn’t a decision.

Not spending the extra 5 million to have bought guehi in much earlier in the window certainly was a decision.

It’s highly likely that another £5m for Palace so late would’ve made zero difference.

The point is they were asking for the extra 5 million from the start of August. So yes I agree offering that on deadline day probably wouldn’t have made a difference. Offering it on 15 July certainly may well have.

Also my original post actually stated:

not to sign a Centre back for the last few seasons

So not just this transfer window but based on the fact we haven’t signed a top class centre back since 2021.

It was widely reported we liked guehi but didn’t feel we needed him, hence being so passive in our pursuit and willing to wait for either palace to meet our valuation (which they did) or get him for free a year later. What was reported as an “improved offer” we submitted to palace late on was the same base fee that had been on the table all summer but had changes the structure that palace indicated they wanted

We are where we are with defense because this is seemingly where they were content being.
