Not sure about that atm , but I wouldn’t bet against it in the future.
Why not? He’s won the same as Gerrard + the League… To me that’s total eclipse.
I wasn’t thinking about honours , more about longevity.
What works in favour for SG at the moment, is that he had to do the business under the shit tactics of Woy and Brenda.
What a pity Klopp never landed 7/8yrs earlier. SG may have reached playing heights never ever seen before on a football pitch.
You missed his reading of the game, tactical nous, … and ability to pass on the half turn.
… and you picked such a day to dish Henderson?
… and wind me up at the same time. I should just blow you away.
Yep all of them in spades, with regards to play on the turn that’s certainly an area he has improved dramatically.
He and Gini are very similar, both will sacrifice themselves for the team but the job they both do to allow Robbo/Trent to “shine” is key.
What impresses me the most is his game management and understanding. He has constantly improved all aspects of his game from passing to positioning and tackling, but it’s his ability to dictate tempo that’s stood out the most for me. It’s impossible not to see the way we struggle to gain control and tend to lapse structurally when he’s not in the team. We have a world class squad that is still top of the league and qualified early from CL with up to 8 first team players out, when everyone said without Virgil alone we’d fall apart! The reality is the only player we really can’t do without for long periods is Hendo as the results when he’s not in the team speak for themselves.
Souness back in the day used to see team mates struggling for touch or form and always be there for a simple 5 yard pass from them to get the confidence back up, the little things that go unnoticed but keep the team ticking like a well oiled machine. That’s exactly the kind of stuff Hendo does on a weekly basis. The kind of stuff you won’t see on a stat sheet. Except he’s adding assists and the odd goal to his game. He is the complete captain.
Absolutely. the bold part is so true. Ask most of rival fans and they wouldn’t want Hendo in their existing midfield. Ask us, Hendo would be the last one we would want to be playing without. You value him when you see him match after match, the finer nuances, his leadership on and off the field.
But, one really values him when he doesn’t play, you get a feeling what you are missing. One keeps looking for reasons why the entire team isn’t performing despite having the entire first team and not just Hendo. That’s a testimony on what he brings to our team.
As for the comparison with Gerrard is concerned, very difficult to compare and put one above the other. Different circumstances and context. Will never know the ‘What would have been had they been in each other’s shoes?’ and each played their part in what we are and what we represent. that matters more. Grateful to both!
The thing never ceases to amaze me about Hendo is how he is like a magnet for the opposition’s attempt to break and get out of their own half. It’s not Kante like, where he chases people all over the pitch until they give up and give you the ball, it’s more like a Jedi mind trick in that where ever he sticks himself they end playing the ball to.
There are several very solid explanations for why the perception of fans of his performances would have improved over the years that have nothing to do with him becoming a better player. However, it is inconceivable that a player that driven and smart would fail improve as an individual working for this long with Klopp and Pep.
This is one of my favorite parts about him. I believe there was a point yesterday where one of the Wolves players tried to meg him to break our press, Jordan instantaneously closed his legs and intercepted the pass and put us on the attack. His football IQ is unreal, and he anticipates so well. Brilliant player, even better person.
Quietly rapturous, that’s how I can describe him.
Eh!
At first I read rupturous and wondered if that was even a word even so do quiet and rapturous go together, hey @cynicaloldgit where are you. HELP!
What about serenely mesmerizing

You’ve clearly never had a fine bottle of wine… which is odd for someone who lives in France.
Quiet contemplation and enjoyment… remember: empty vessels make the most noise.
Nice, @Iftikhar is forgiven for worrying me.
Btw when I drink French wine I’m in deep contemplation ‘en Français’ my only real exposure to English is on this forum. I am often shocked by the language used when visit the land of my mother tongue.
Can’t be Hendo’s pass map his 2 assists are missing.
