Thanks as you might have gathered I’m not at all clued up over watches. I have an ancient solar powered Casio G-Shock that was given to me by a workmate as he had a new one and he was annoyed everytime I took my ancient christmas present Timex out of my pocket as the strap was broken.
i have been watching him since he arrived. I would have to go further back than the last 2 seasons to see anything remotely like what your going on about.
Often Hendo’s reading of the game eliminates the need for the half turn his positioning and that of his body is phenomenal.
I think those that haven’t seen what Hendo can do and does do is due to him not being a ‘silky’ player he can be described as awkward however he gets the business done and that’s what counts.
I disagree and I have mentioned it in games, you are blinkered and this is from a person who has bern pro Hendo from the beginning
Yep, I got a ban from RAWK about 5 years ago for calling someone a stupid twat for saying Hendo was a useless twat… The irony.
He really is the person who glues the team together and gets us from 3rd to 4/5th gear… It’s not anything technical either its just his sheer determination and willpower… That hunger and drive to win the ball and force the game to play on his terms.
To be fair people were still openly hoping the guy was missing in the season we won the Champions League, I heard it on the bus from Anfield with one guy hoping he stayed injured.
Was he from Chicago?
Or it could be that he has improved. I certainly think so. 11/12 was pretty dire as was the first half of 12/13. From the second half of 12/13 to 13/14 he was extremely good as we were as a team but also incredibly open. That’s okay because that’s on Rodgers, not him. 14/15 and 15/16 were once again pretty dire as was the team tbf. 16/17 and the front half of 17/18 were also not eye opening seasons for him but the team was slowly evolving and taking shape and so was his place and role in the team as we moved from just hoping to compete to actually doing so. 18/19, 19/20 and now 20/21 has seen him just go up yet another gear where is now unquestionably the man.
So while I agree with you that he has been instrumental since 13/14 he has also followed the trajectory of the team in his own evolution, improvement and progression as a player.
I have always been an admirer of Hendo but he has also drastically improved over the last 18 months, I think the catalyst was the game against Southampton when he reemerged as a no 8. It us as though he decided by himself that he was a great player and a leader of the team, ge jtst blossomed
I’m a contrary so-and-so.
As when SAF declared that Hendo would never amount to anything due to his gait, I decided I really wanted him to prove the old bugger wrong, very wrong in fact. So, over the decades I have championed Jordon, and thankfully watched him improve in all aspects for us, and himself.
So up yours SAF, he has succeeded in becoming everything you declared he wouldn’t - shows what you know really!
I’ll readily admit to being one of his detractors up until about two years ago. One of those fools whose heart would sink when we fielded the Mid 3 of Milner , Hendo and Wijnaldum , and scream ‘Where’s the creativity ?’
Like I replied to somebody’s post last night when they said he had been fantastic in that game ; ‘It’s not just tonight , it’s virtually **every ** game.’
When Thiago was signed , and the brief glimpses we have had of him since , there isn’t a player I was more excited about watching week in week out. Great players just have that mesmerising effect on you.
But here’s the funny thing , I realised last night that I watch Hendo just as intently. Not expecting to witness something spectacular (although his two assists were very good) but just in sheer admiration of the way he plays (controls) the game , keeps it simple and rarely ever misplaces a pass. (Something I used to be hugely critical of him for.) It’s just a delight now to be able to watch this player , after all the grief he has been given , play with such confidence and authority. (I also agree with all the comments about how much better he is turning with the ball.)
A while ago most would have scoffed at the thought of Jordan Henderson becoming a Liverpool legend. Not so now , and maybe sometime in the future there might even be those willing to debate who was Liverpool’s best midfielder. Now there’s food for thought.
We may differ in what we think about Hendo in the past but it will be hard to find a fan now who does not think he is going to retire a legend for us in future.
Seems like he has as well, always had issues with Ferguson but that comment was just nasty, no need to put it in as he has no link to him and no connection.
Came across as a bitter old Cnut, glad to see Hendo lift the biggest prizes in the game since while his team withers.
Isn’t the catalyst more the arrival of Fabinho which meant he has been able to play a more constructive role in midfield rather than covering the DM slot?
His playing capabilities have always been there and he has worked on areas that he has needed to improve on. Where he has improved is in his leadership qualities. It might be controversial but I think he has surpassed Gerrard in that respect. Gerrard’s style of leadership was to lead by example however with Hendo it’s more subtle than that. I joke about his job being “shouting at people in Mackem” but he is actually organising the players around him and playing slightly further forward has made that easier for him.
The role of club captain is as much as things that happen off the pitch as on it and he is a huge plus for us with that (plus the likes of Milner backing him up).
One reason Hendo got so much stick in the past, was because he sacrificed his reputation for the team by playing most games in an unfamiliar position.
Every player would have struggled to shine in the team given the same circumstances.
He has two or three seasons left to eclipse the great Stevie G… I say go for it Jordan lad.
COYR
He has a massive footballing IQ, his speed of thought to spot the runs of Mane/Salah and more importantly translate (within milliseconds) to a technically inch perfect bullet of a pass is a massive part of how and why we counter at pace.
If you go back to the initial pass of most of our best counter attacks the “first” which gets us going is always Hendo. (The other is usually Bobby btw.)
I’d argue he has eclipsed Gerrard… And will continue to build on that.
My post does not say he has eclipsed SG.! It says he has another two or three seasons to do so.
Not sure you understand, I said he already has eclipsed what Gerrard achieved here.
Ah ok Draexnael. My mistake but I am blaming it on it being a Monday morning post celebrations.
Compare him then (Fergie) to how he is now and how gracious and complimentary he was of Klopp after us winning the title.
