Think Lewis Hamilton will be a very strong contender having just matched some career record or other with (probably and hopefully) plenty of time left in his career too.
To be honest I lost all interest in it a fair few years back, best car wins and it’s a bit sad.
Thought that Jordan was the absolute beating heart of our side today (and for a while now). Ran the show in every phase of play.
I think his legacy will grow the longer we have to look back on it. What a player. What a leader.
Yeah to be honest when we win and win well he is always one of those I pick, he drags us through those tough games and performs in the stellar performances.
I didn’t pick him tonight for the fact I’ve chosen him that much, we’ve got a fair few leaders throughout now but Henderson is at the front of that.
He has changed immeasurably from the player I thought should not be here let alone lead. Incredible transformation from him. He now has the absolute faith of everyone along with the fact that every member in the team looks up to him. The change in his play is also astounding and I remember watching him yesterday and thinking how comfortable and adept he is now on the half turn when receiving the ball whereas in the past he just didn’t have that ability or the spatial awareness.
Huge credit to the coaching staff at making him the player he’s grown into but he’s worked incredibly hard. Along the with Milner he’s probably the perfect template of a player a coach and manager would love to work with.
Your going back a long way to spout that.
Yes his 1st season with us he appeared tentative however you could always see he was listening to the more experienced players in the squad (e.g Gerrard). Not to have noticed his progression since he’s been at the club takes some special kind of blindness. When BR named him aptain there were reasons.
Nah, your usual blunt axe approach is missing things . I’ve mentioned it before and will do so again; he was still somewhat in and out of the team even as captain up until 18/19 and Southampton away in the latter half of that season when he came on to spur us to the win imo is the clear demarcation from the player and captain he was to the player and captain he is now.
There is absolutely no harm in saying that he divided the fan base in the past and that he has absolutely blasted away any doubts that he should be regarded as a legend. If anything, that he has come from where he was to where he is now is a testament to the quality of the man. No damning with faint praise here.
Do you think part of the improvement is the small amount of time spent training with Thiago, who is exceptional on receiving the ball?
You can mention it as often as you like, it’s already old, I will be reliably behind my keyboard and monitor to check you in my usual manner.
Are you trying to wind me up?
You are self winding, btw Hendo has, prior to this season, been poor at receiving the ball on the half turn, he would mostly turn back towards goal rather than opening up to play forward
That’s not what I saw last season or the season before that were he was pinging passes without even looking!
I also unwind myself.
Self winding… Axial…
@Flobs is actually an Omega watch.
Before I like your post can I just ask what the significance of Omega watches and axial is?
Omega use a type of movement in their watches called a co-axial. They’re famous for it in the world of watchmaking.
Don’t think it is Thiago per se but obviously training with the guy would add to the knowledge gained. I think its the training staff and himself that has obviously worked on it and you are right that in the past a ball played to him was generally played back in the same direction or one touch around the corner. Now he can turn and suddenly the whole pitch is in his field of vision and has opened up to him which in turn makes us so much more fluid from front to back. That goal against Wolves is a case in point from a team view, pass, pass, pass, turn, pass, pass, turn, pass and suddenly Trent has an opening to put in that cross.
Would recommend that you watch his method of receiving the ball on the turn from the back over the last few years, he would, on numerous occasions, turn back when not under real pressure when there was the opportunity to receive the ball on the half turn to play the ball forward.
Something which Thiago excels at, when fit, and what I am seeing that more from Hendo lately
It’s only natural that for those of us who always rated Henderson will say those who have come to admire him are only now seeing what we’ve always seen in him, and those who didn’t think him up to much consider that his performances are what’s changed. Human nature.
For me he’s been instrumental to the team since 13/14.
We’d have probably won the league had Eto’o not assaulted him at Stamford Bridge that Christmas.
