Jordan HENDERSON MBE: 2020/21

2ND. Ah well. Can’t really argue with Hamilton.

It will be Sir Lewis Hamilton come the New Year.

Wouldn’t surprise me at all, unless the tax-dodging is an issue? That’s why Beckham never got one.

He pays loads of tax in the UK, living in Monaco won’t be an issue. Beckham hasn’t got one yet because he doesn’t deserve one.

I would have loved Jordan to win it. He is such a humble personality as well as a strong leader on the pitch.

However, I will not dispute Lewis Hamilton winning it, he is also a worthy winner for what he has achieved in F1 and his off the track social causes as well.

They gave one to Andy Murray! And Phillip Green. If I was Becks I’d be fucking furious

Really? Is Beckham one of the top two or three footballers ever in the UK? That’s Murray’s and Hamilton’s equivalent status in their own sports. Hell, Dalglish only just got his (although there were reasons).

I’ll give you Philip Green!

Yeah, Lewis was always going to be a big favourite for an individual award like that. I don’t give much importance to those anyway, but happy for our members/club when we do win them. Said it last season, I think this whole new love towards Hendo is a bit too late in my opinion (it’s like coming from people who didn’t give him credit before and now with us winning the title they felt they had to give him something). He’s been good on and off the pitch for a long, long time. Nothing new.

Here’s Jurgen’s letter to Hendo from last night’s BBC awards:

"Hello friend, hello our captain,

When we won the Premier League title last season you wrote a personal letter to every player in the squad and myself. Well, now it’s my turn. I write this letter to you.

This Liverpool team they say we don’t have one superstar. For us the team is the star. This is true. But you are a superstar at making us that team.

Jordan, people too often ignore your quality. But not me and not your team-mates.

After a touch journey with many obstacles everyone can see it - personality, character and ability. The complete package.

You led our club to ending a 30-year wait. You did it with humility and grace. You’re a world class athlete and football player but you are an even better human being.

Thank you for everything, my friend, and here’s to a great 2021.

With love, Jurgen."

Am I the only one crying? :sob::heart:

We couldn’t ask for a better captain…or a better manager. This is what Liverpool is all about.

Everyone except @cynicaloldgit . He’s going ‘He wrote touch instead of tough, ffs’

Jürgen does get bonus points, however, for avoiding that “Captain, my captain” bollocks.

Fucking hate that.

Jordan Henderson will perhaps never win awards like Ballon d’Or or the likes of it. But that’s not a measure of our captain but rather a measure of the awards themselves. Just like the shiny things they are, they go to people with glitz (but not necessarily devoid of talent/accomplishment).

Jordan got it tough, immeasurably and unfairly tough. He wasn’t guile and he wasn’t scouse and he came in the footsteps of Steven Gerrard. Abuse, doubt and indifference is what he got for better part of his Liverpool life. Yet, like the finest of the blades, he was forged in the hardest crucible. He was calming in troubled waters and spurring in calmer stretches.

Even now when our squad is splurged with talents and graft, no three words calms us more than Jordan. Brian. Henderson. The forever Scouse from beyond Merseyside.

For me he is now the most important player in the squad. Just his presence on the pitch reassures me. I felt the same way years ago with Souness. Very different player but I felt he had the same positive impact on the rest of the team as Henderson does now. Not just a great player in his own right but one who sets standards for everyone else.
