The last couple of games Hendo has just gone up a level.
He was sublime against Everton.

Fantastic goal, fantastic assist, imperious all round.

Our most important midfielder for a good few years now - nothing new.

He’s one of those players you’ll know you are missing when he doesn’t play. While yesterday’s all round game was just amazing, his constant shouting and lifting up of players is incredibly important. You need leaders on the pitch, talent alone isn’t enough. And Hendo brings it both!

He was below par at the start of the season but back to his best now. Ran the game from the first whistle. Pumped up, but in a good way. No stupid tackles, just controlled aggression throughout. Took his goal brilliantly. Man of the match by a mile. Sorry Mo.

My MOTM too, his best game of the season.

Just quality in every aspect. The technical ability he showed last night was really top level stuff, stuff that if Thiago had done it we’d be waxing lyrical for weeks. Brilliant finish, brilliant passing.

His work off the ball was just as good, offensively and defensively . He hurried Everton’s players all night, covered when running back but never stopped offering that overlap into the right hand channel and followed up with a couple of really good crosses into the box. He took that extra bit of freedom he has this season and used it effectively to cause Everton problems time and time again.

He an Robertson appear to have returned from their injuries/enforced break with a renewed vigor. Both have been player at 70% up until now, to see them back at their best is really promising.

I wonder who was/is counting? :astonished:

In 18/19 he was dropped for a bit and was re-invigorated when he made the difference off the bench against Southampton. It must be worth a go again, there have been too many games like today recently.

If the unthinkable happens and Keita returns back from international duty fully fit I’d like to see him in the starting 11 for our next league game.

Maybe Klopp will wait to see if the winter break makes any difference at all, but if we manage to get all our midfielders back fit I think it’s only a matter of time before Henderson loses his spot as a guaranteed starter.

I am not sure how much of it is from the more frequent interchange of position in game with Trent. He covers Trent when he’s venturing up, but that bit is lost when they both are on the overlap with Fab and Matip having to cover more than they would like.

I think he could do with a bit of benching/rest, but there’s simply no alternative.

He just looks fucked, so many poor touches which I think is down to fatigue. He clearly shouldn’t be playing the overlap right midfielder for me.

Whatever the answer is it needs finding soon as our right side is so bad defensively.

Think Elliott will be taking his spot off him soon unless he bucks up a bit. Might need like what Tsimikas playing well did for Robertson or Kelleher for Alisson seems to have and Henderson may improve and keep his spot.

I think Fabinho needs Henderson at the moment, but Henderson needs a rest.

I’m more inclined to think fatigue, so hopefully the coaching team will have a good long look at our squad (and give them a break) over the next fortnight.

Hopefully Henderson uses this fortnight well.

In terms of traits that Klopp likes in his midfielders and overall balance of the midfield, the trio consisting of Fabinho, Alcantara and Keita is probably the best this side has to offer. Too bad that Alcantara and Keita can’t play a full season of games combined. I genuinely think that would be the most feisty and eye-pleasing midfield we’ve had at the club in the last twenty years at least.

That said, Henderson is far from finished but he looks knackered lately and it’s not the first time this season that he looked like he felt the burden of frequent games. It’s no wonder given that at least half of our midfielders are out for some reason at any point this season plus the role he’s playing this season (I’d like to see his sprinting and distance covering stats - I wouldn’t be surprised if his match average in these categories was higher than last season).

I wish he (and Trent) skipped international duty this time in order to recharge a bit but it still wouldn’t be enough, in my opinion, unless Keita and Alcantara showed some semblance of fitness.
