We don’t need three left backs and he’s done nothing here to make us think he’ll be any kind of challenge for Kerkez.
If a permanent move isn’t forthcoming then let him go on loan. If he does well, great. If he barely plays then it’s not like sending a youngster on loan to get some experience and getting frustrated that they’re not playing.
He’s done a reasonable enough back up job so if he fancies a year in Rome and they’re going to cover his wages then I can’t begrudge him that just because Roma probably won’t make it a permanent move next summer.
At this stage I always doubt Italian teams turning loans into permanent moves but there has been a few success stories in the last few years with less fancied prem players going over there and doing really well. It might mean things have changed a bit and they’d be willing to buy if it’s cheap enough.
It would be incredibly odd not to register our 3rd/4th CB especially if we didn’t go for Guehi. Just so we could register a third left back. Considering also that Gomez can play there.
Makes sense. It’s very unlikely we had anyone trying to sign him on a permanent deal at a price we were happy with so letting him go on loan is the next best thing.
It’s perfect really. Robbo has one more year, so, presuming all goes well with Kerkez, we’ll have Tsimikas back as backup LB next season. One season in Italy will show him what a good life he has at Anfield.
