Barcelona treated him so badly the last couple of years.
For my generation, he is the GOAT. He lasted longer than Diego and looked after his body and mind. I feel priviledged to have watched him in my lifetime.

I genuinely don’t get the whole Messi situation.
Handed in a transfer request last year, now crying because he can’t stay, says he has tried everything (except take a massive pay-cut?!)
He has so much money and will sti get so much from endorsements that he could play for free if Barca is where he wants to be.
If he is going to PSG to continue getting his riches, he doesn’t gave to admit that, just say he wants to try a new challenge before th end of his career.

According to the Barca PTB wanted to cut his wages even further and he did agree abit more further cuts, then the PTB wanted his wages cut further, there was no plan to find a solution. Come on, we can’t expect Messi to play for free. He is entitled to a monthly wage.

I read a tweet that it’s all Neymars fault. If he hadn’t left, they wouldn’t have been “forced” to spend so much money on Countinho and Dembele!
Not sure how that could be the case when PSG merely met the release clause Barcelona had agreed to.
His tears are genuine, he was a young boy when i went there. He doesn’t need the money. He has so much sponsorship.
He clearly loves this club. He says he wats to come back to FCB in some capacity.
He could have gone to MLS for the money.
So he won’t be kissing the PSG badge when he scores his first goal for them?
I can’t see him doing that. He may jump and shout when he scores. His true love is Barcelona.
If it’s not about the money he could have dropped to a €20k a week wage and stayed

I see it both ways.
Yes Messi has a deep affection for Barcelona and it’s natural to be sad when ending such a long and illustrious relation. But let’s not forget, it’s those mega salaries that ruined Barcelona. It’s not like Barcelona forced him to take 100 million a year.

What i am hearing, from the Barcelona side in their lastminute.com decision, they realised that they were in such dire straits, they couldn’t afford to pay him any wage.
I think they are over €450 million in debt. They had to get rid of Messi.
Messi kids wanted to stay in the same school and be with their friends.
I never thought Messi’s farewell would end like this in front of the journalists and press conference. It should be in front of his fans in Camp Nou, where he could have said goodbye properly. This is so sad.

At €20k a week he’d still bring in far more money from shirt sales and merchandise than he would cost them.
