Thanks Phil.

Editā€¦ Iā€™ve read a lot of nonsense here. This drama is only because of LaLiga rules and Barcelonaā€™s wage structure. Nothing else!!

Gotta say, itā€™s actually a pleasure to see a club that means so much to a player.

When has that ever happened before. Very very rare

For those saying Messi shouldā€™ve played for free if it was about club, get a grip. Barcelona isnā€™t in this position because of Messiā€™s wages. Nor should a player who generates so much revenue for the club be expected to provide his services for free. Barca are in this place because theyā€™ve been paying above market value wages for everyone else. 750k a week for griezman, 300k for Phil, whatever DeJong is on.

Our club has one of the highest wage bills in the PL and yet we are still nowhere near these guys. Owners want you to think player wages are the problem, but all we are seeing is the transition from club power to player power like weā€™ve seen in various American sports.

La Ligaā€™s response to the whole situation (CVC investment etc etc) is going to stir up another ESL of some sort.

My favourite non Liverpool player. Best player ever.

I get his devo after being there all his life.

But I just donā€™t get the money grab at the back end of careers when they all have gazillions. Greed or ego or both. Gotta earn more than the other guy in the shedā€¦

Fuck me Lionel if you love them that much take a bigger cut. Or even better head to a club you could help develop. But it appears we are off to that hoax oil club instead. Joke.

Messi canā€™t be registered even if he was playing for them for free. The situation in barca is that dire.

@Sithbare I hope the level of direness also takes place on the field this season. Miss out of CL, no trophies, spoilt for success fans screaming - now wouldnā€™t that be enjoyable.

Needs to happen. The entitled cunts (a huge %age of the barcaā€™s fanbase) need to be taken down quite a bit.

Notice how the media is totally ignoring the real issue, issue that led to this situation. All are just drooling over Messi. Cunts.

Itā€™s Messi or Ronaldo isnā€™t it.

Iā€™ve always thought Messi but that probably had something to do with that team Ronaldo used to play for in red, white and black.

Either way it is sad to see.

Personally I donā€™t mind players like him and Ronaldo earning millions.

They have turned it on every week basically for their entire careers, are rarely injured and you donā€™t hear about them taking the piss out in night clubs etc etc. Simply put - brilliant role models.

Itā€™s not publicised very much but I have read that both Ronaldo and Messi do a lot of charity work etc.

The notion that Messi should play for free because right the mismanagement of the club is a joke.

Many people here have said ā€œhe has millions. Why doesnā€™t he pay for free or drop down to a level where he can make a difference and more or less play for freeā€

Wake the fuck up.

If you are used to living on a million a week then you can guarantee that your lifestyle matches your wages.

I am not - but if I was on 100k a year could I afford to take a 50% pay cut - no, because my mortgage, car payments, credit card bills etc etc would kill me. Itā€™s the same for these people on multimillions per year. They manage their shit the same way we all do, albeit on a much grander scale.

The good thing about Barca putting themselves in a right fucking mess is I bet they are a fun challenge in Footie Managerā€¦ Liverpool got too easy once we signed Alisson.

Remember that time they were both facing jail time for tax evasion?

  • brilliant role models!

If you looked into that youā€™d know that it was their advisor who did all that. They, along with many other sports people were just the face of it.

At the end of the day if you pay an accountant and he says ā€œdo this, it will save you moneyā€ youā€™re going to listen to him.

I doubt Messi or Ronaldo are financially astute enough to manage to defraud a nations tax laws, by themselves any how

Barcelonaā€™s debt is more like Ā£1 billion. Theyā€™re in a real mess, financially.

All this talk about Messi and I still havent seen much in the way of moves that will allow them to register Garcia, Memphis or Aguero.

Only semi related, itā€™s being reported that Moriba, one of their best kids is refusing to resign with them and so is expected to leave for very cheap this summer. Heā€™s a proper Barca midfielder, but has the size and athleticism that would thrive in our side. Id love to see Klopp get a hold of him.

Notwithstanding the fact that Messi still cannot be registered despite playing for free, the bolded bit summarises what is wrong with Messi and his group of advisors over the years. 20% of the clubā€™s wage is spent on one player. If that is not holding the club to ransom, I do not know what is.

As @Limiescouse suggested, we should raid Barcelona for their top talents. Moriba, Fati and possibly Pedri. Maybe De Jong too.

Barcaā€™s problems really arent centered on Messi though. They were one of the most badly hit clubs in the world by covid, and it is that unexpected loss of revenue against fixed salary commitments that is why they are so far over the league limit. Then when you look at their salary issues, yes Messi takes home a lot, but that is at least commensurate with his performances and on pitch importance. Their issue is the money they pay to players like Griezmann who while good isnt coming close to justifying it, and outright flops like Dembele and Coutinho.

Their issue is they have spent terribly, not that theyā€™ve paid the best player in the world his market rate.
