The meme of Leicester’s players forming a wall (bus) with one of them lying down behind it will be priceless.
Shit that’s easy
Who goes down on the floor?
That one player with his contract running out soon and the one they’re preparing to sell.
Not that Rodgers is on his way out, but if he does what would be the roadmap for Leicester?
Would they hire someone young and exciting (Graham Potter or someone from the continent)? Would they try to cash-in on their aging/established players and try to rebuild with an young squad?
Don’t see why Potter would leave Brighton just yet. Moving to Leicester would be a sideways move. Moving to Man Utd would be a downgrade.
Potter should be looking to get into one of the top 3 clubs (Pool,City,Chelsea) after the respective managers finish their contract. The chelsea chance might come sooner rather than later but that’s a poisoned chalice as well with no managers lasting more than 2 seasons.
Scenes when Leicester sack Rogers and somehow convince Ten Hag that their project is the right one for him. redcafe would literally melt down and break the entire internet.
I think it simply depends on who is available, and how they think that person fits. They have had a mix of managers under the Thai owners.
As much as I rate the work Potter has done at Brighton, I don’t think it is realistic to think a top job in this league would be available for him. I just think there has developed a sense that the people who fill these jobs need to be more pressure tested…and in cases where that isnt true there is some compelling narrative they can spin, like wth Arteta. Somewhat poetically, I think it was Rodgers’ experience at Liverpool that closed that door for guys like Potter. I think what he’d need is a stepping stone like Leicester and taking them one step further than Rodgers required. And that is a tricky as hell situation to assess which is the right stepping stone
It’s the step that Gerrard in a way has taken for me at Villa, Potter’s next step would be an Arsenal or a Spurs. But that next level of teams changes quite regularly.
Just saying that if you look at the teams that Brighton has w.r.t the team that Leicester has. Leicester’s team while better isn’t miles better than Brighton’s team. Potter would be better served sticking at Brighton for a few years and then wait.
Same goes for Arsenal and Spurs , They aren’t that big an upgrade over Brighton for Potter to really risk derailing his career. Keep in mind that if his next move is a failure, He risks derailing his career for a few years and will have to build up his reputation back again.
Look at Rodgers, His stock after Liverpool was so low that he had to go to Celtic to get his career back on track. Similar to Lampard at Everton , Moyes after Man Utd (The failure of Moyes at Man Utd was so dire that he’s probably ruled out for any top teams right now)
What Stevie and Potter have done makes sense, Prove yourself in a weaker league outside England , Get into a club which has money and a decent fanbase (with lesser expectations). Get your choice of players through and then bring yourself into reckoning for the top clubs. As opposed to Lampard (who effectively killed his career when taking up a job he wasn’t ready for at Chelsea) and to a lesser extent Arteta.
Not sure how you can say that. Both of those teams are competing for a Champions League spot, have vastly bigger fan bases, vastly bigger resources, vastly bigger stadiums, are both in London and wiith all respect to Brighton, more quality and depth in their squads. Either of those teams would be a massive step up for Potter, there is just no comparison between managing Brighton and managing Arsenal or Spurs.
Leicester 2-3 Spurs
Leicester 1-1 Brighton
Liverpool 2-0 Leicester
Leicester 2-2 West Ham
Wolves 2-1 Leicester
Ouch. Also got a tonking by Forest in there as well.
Can’t believe we’ve lost to them. Would have been neck and neck with City if Leicester weren’t so damned lucky that day
Can’t get my head around that, too. If I remember correctly, the press were giving Leicester a right tonking in those days prior to that game, too, and they had plenty of injuries as well. Football, eh…
Rodgers getting found out again, noughts and crosses.++++.
and 200hrs of community service watching the Leicester games…
and 4 hrs watching brendan rodgers giving the lads showed character speech
He’s appealed that, asking for an extra 4 months instead.
