LFC Sporting Director thread

If his nickname isn’t Biggus Dickus, then there is clearly no hope for the future of Britain

Yeah that Scott lad is pretty decent

Saw this headline this morning, probably nonsense but posting the link anyway just in case anyone has seen it elsewhere

Jason Wilcox: Manchester United and Liverpool in battle to appoint Southampton’s director of football (msn.com)

Even if true, could be for some other positions created in the new setup

Seems like Hughes is still working for them…

Liverpool’s internal transfer deadline is set for 5 PM tomorrow, as Richard Hughes prepares to head to Italy for a two-week annual leave.

Preparing for summer 2025.

:sunglasses:

Could be a very busy summer.

We know we need a left back. Either Robbo or Tsimikas should move to back up, with the other leaving to make way for Hato? Kerkez? Other?

We likely need a midfielder too. Our midfield is really good, young too, but Slot seems to have four main ones he goes to - Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai and Jones. We could probably do with a fifth main midfielder that Slot uses more regularly, replacing Endo and Morton. Your guess is as good as mine. Kimmich is on a Bosman perhaps? There are several good options out there.

Then we are waiting to see what happens with the three pressing contract renewals.

If Virg leaves we definitely need a new cb, someone who can come in and boss it right away. If Virg stays, and I really hope he does, we could still do with another cb to start to plan for the future. I’d like to see us sign Huijsen, and:

If Trent leaves, Bradley could be the right back, with Joe Gomez the main rotation option. Gomez does very well in the position whenever called on.

If Mo leaves, we clearly need to buy a very good player for the right wing. It’s hard to say who we might be looking at. Bynoe-Gittens is doing very well at Dortmund. I think Kudus has a lot of great attributes and could really kick on, and he has worked well under Heitenga before. Is Bakayoko good enough? Karim Adeyemi at Dortmund might be another to consider. It’s hard to say what we might do, but if Mo leaves, as is looking likely, we will clearly bring someone in.

What else?

The forward line is very good, but in a strange way there could be question marks over all of them, apart from Gakpo. Salah may move on. Hasn’t signed a deal. Nunez is borderline. Will he stay and add the goals we need? Will we look for someone else for the role? Jota is a smashing player but can’t seem to stay fit enough for long enough. It might make him vulnerable. Diaz is a very good player too, but he needs to sign a new deal or perhaps someone like Barcelona might come in for him? (Do they have more levers to pull?)

Lots of variables.

I’m chilled about Hughes. There’s a sense in which you do a lot of work way in advance, so if we have a dry January, I’m fine with that, especially as we are doing so well. However…

Ideally we would add one more this January to at least freshen it up a bit and give some added oomph, but if it is not to be, we really need to be seeing a good summer, setting us up to continue to challenge at the very top for years to come.

That’s when Hughes will start to be judged for me.

Mentioned a lot in today’s press conference:

Hughes will have fed everything he felt useful here.

A piece extolling his virtues. Let’s hope he shows that quality for Liverpool as well. Funnily enough, one would think a lot of this info was fed by someone really close to Edwards…

You would think the guy who got Slot in when he could have gotten Iraola in means that he rates Slot more.

I don’t have a valid reason to question Richard Hughes’s work at LFC, but i am not feeling it with him.

I am disappointed he hasn’t sorted out TAA, Virgil and Mo’s contracts yet.

End of the day he can’t force them to sign at gun point.

To me his biggest task was to make a new manager seem seamless and he’s done that it seems.

He won so much with Bournemouth due to all his clever deals. This is the big leagues, what you do at Liverpool defines your career.
