LFC Sporting Director thread

His name can be shortened

Last summer I think Hughes was on record saying that they heard in November that Wirtz was looking to move and that we began to make a serious move for him in February.

February was also around the time I think Arne was making the case that our way of playing had been found out and needed changing.

I’ve often wondered since which of these where the driving factor

It’s all bonus related :face_with_peeking_eye:

Is that our bonus as fans? Watching him knock some poor red out in the Kop with his wild shots?

As sporting director, him writing anything like that would show him as weak and not worthy of the job.

How does a problem get solved when the problem-creator is also the director of football and has one year left on his contract? If Iraiola (assuming that’s who we’re getting) is the “head coach” what happens when his boss is not getting his contract renewed? Does he temporarily become the manager? Or are we going to have another Schmadke situation?

That’s the least I would expect for Hughes. He’s made too many questionable decisions to get another contract in my book.

It helps that you have someone above who is a constant. I would like to see if they can keep Edwards constant.

They’re probably hoping the same as they obviously rate him highly. But as the multi-club thing isn’t happening now they probably need to find another role for him if he’s to stay.

That Sky breakfast podcast thingy that was posted up earlier said that Hughes is rarely at Anfield. That’s a bit of a red flag straight off as he would have picked up on the mood of the crowd over the course of the season.

I appreciate we had to move on post Klopp as Edwards had already gone, but there’s something in the current structure that isn’t quite working is it did previously.

I don’t think he really needs to be there to pick up on that, or whether that is the key bellweather that decides whether or not to keep Arne.

Not sure, I’m probing for reasons on why and when the decision was made.

I suspect (and expect) that he will be at Anfield a lot more frequently next season…assuming he still retains his job.

I haven’t been to Anfield this season but I’m very aware of the mood. And they don’t even pay me hundreds of thousands of pounds a year to pay attention to what’s going on.

I’m looking forward to it not being so quiet and grumbly next season. At times I felt sheepish shouting along with the Kop when hardly anybody in my Sir Kenny stand area was being vocal…except when it came to barking at our players to pass forward.

Same but we have a wonderful community here to inform us.

Is Hughes moonlighting among us?

He’s probably too busy tending to his perfectly sculpted hair. It gets windy down the coast, you know!

Another silence Carragher is desperate to fill with his opinion…

When he says “everyone talks about them” I wonder if he has an ounce of self-awareness to realise he’s one of those people in the media that has talked them up.

Feels like another indication that Hughes will leave after next season.

How do you get that from that quote, worse than a politician!
