If you Google him, results like “Bundesliga’s transfer king” come up; he really has a stellar reputation for finding talents at a low cost and then selling them on for a huge profit (Omar Marmoush, Willian Pacho, or Hugo Ekitiké, just to name a few examples).

Nuno Mendes of PSG apparently the first choice target at left back but as he signed a new contract we moved for Kerkez instead.
Wanted to sign Semenyo in January window but had to wait until Mo’s situation had been resolved before we could do anything.
Looked at trying to bring in Marco Palestra this summer but had to prioritise other signings first.

In what universe is Kerkez a reasonable second option to Nuno?!
It’s easy to forget now, but Kerkez was seen as one of the top LBs in the PL the summer we went for him, plus Hughes knew him (and presumably his representatives) very well already from the Bournemouth connection.

That’s all true, which makes the signing all the more suspect. Hughes couldn’t possibly not know that Kerkez is a hothead with questionable ability going forward, and in the off chance that he didn’t that means that he failed to do his job properly. Maybe Kerkez proves us all wrong in the future, but right now he looks like a poorly scouted transfer that isn’t of the required level.
Kerkez, Frimpong (similar limitations in possession) and Marmardashvili (how could he sign a goalkeeper who isn’t comfortable with the ball at his feet) are the biggest black marks against Hughes.

Milos Kerkez was voted the Premier League’s best left-back for the 2024–25 season and earned a spot in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year during his final campaign with AFC Bournemouth.

Not an especially insightful article, but in the midst of their praise of Hughes’s character, they dropped this nugget without any explanation:
Executives at some rival clubs were not as favourable in their character referencing because of the way incidents played out over the last two seasons, sources have said.
Presumably Newcastle and Palace executives?
