Which facts did I reinvent? Yes, Kerkez had an excellent season and was included in the PFA team of the year. So have Shaun Wright-Phillips and Fabricio Coloccini.
It doesn’t mean anything if Kerkez keeps playing like this.
I think the point is that criticising the Kerkez signing is a bit hindsight wisdom. I can’t remember anyone saying anything negative at the time.

I’m backing Kerkez to settle and do well for us. He joined a side that struggled all last season. Now it’s a new manager and a new day. He’s a young player and we should support him.

That’s a fair point, but it doesn’t change the fact that Hughes ought to have known better. He wasn’t some random fan signing Kerkez from watching highlights. He was the Sporting Director, who not only had every metric at his disposal, he had intimate knowledge from his time at Bournemouth of what kind of a player Kerkez is.

Brentford is well set up there is no doubt. Problem is if Brentford started to become European regulars they would also have to adapt.
Absolutely. At the same time, it’s not a hard sell to get players to come play for Liverpool. Hopefully they can also find some value in a crazy market.

More of the cost, Brentford it costs 30m we go sniffing it’s probably 50m. Also a player arrives at Brentford he can take his time to get started. Suppose Jacquet is like that so imagine Jacquet had struggled for a couple of weeks or when he does. There are a lot of short memories in our Fan base.

Would you say Frimpong (who hasn’t cost much) would have been afforded more time by the fans had we been playing a wingback system? Then people would be like “he’s in his right position and is one of the best, he’ll come good”
Or is he being transfer listed already because he’s simply not a right back, at least of the PL archetype. That’s problem number one, buying players who are shoehorned into positions.
Problem number two is the price of the player.
There is a definite inverse correlation between the price of the player and the time he is afforded to settle in and start performing.
Price is partly about quality but also largely determined by the demand.
But that does not factor into fans’ thinking. Like it or not, an expensive player will be under pressure from day one.
This is why I didn’t like us spending money on 100M players, no matter how good they are.
