Remember that domestic quadruple

Depay up to 20 goals this season + 9 assists.

Will be interesting to see where he goes this summer with his contract expiring.

There’s been some changes to clubs financial situations in that time, one of which was a big contributing factor to what other clubs could do. It meant only PSG could afford to have top players which is essential for keeping interest, particularly from young football followers, in the domestic league.
It is nothing like other countries where such changes haven’t happened and to pretend otherwise is rediculous!

Those interested in this league might know already. The Girondins de Bordeaux have been left high and dry by the withdrawal of King Street their major sponsor and benefactor.
They have placed themselves under durisdiction of the Tribunal of Commerce which should/could permit them to finish the season. If not the table could be affected, in fact if they don’t finish the season all results involving them will be discarded (allowing PSG to take the top spot as it stands).
It’s time the government acted as French football can not continue under the actual fiscale regime. The clubs that struggle to develop young players and sell them are under immense financial strain.

Some PL club to nick Josh Maja from Bordeaux this summer, then?

If they keep going otherwise it’s just a free for all. All the players could end up being available for free.

It’s so sad. Bordeaux used to be a top-tier club. I think they will taken over by some vulture/venture capitalists. Do you think the lockdown (no ticket sale) caused their collapse?

The mayors office is involved so there will be some vetting of any one coming in. The real problem is finding someone who is really is interested in saving the club.
Covid just accellerated things, all clubs outside PSG are struggling and Bordeaux have been in debt for a while.
The troublr is player wages more than anything and the income tax (I haven’t checked that situation for a while but it’s what put the top french clubs into this situation).

OK, you mentioned this in another thread, would you please elaborate it in the context of French League?

I thought from your comments before you were aware of this
It’s not income tax, it’s a ‘special tax’ essentially any earnings over 1 million euros is taxed at 75%. It really only affects football.
It was a strange thing Hollande wanted to add an extra income tax level to the existing ones but it was deemed unconstitutional so he introduced this instead which isn’t anti constitutional. Barmy.
Highest income tax level is about 43% Btw.

Lillie rescued that, good stuff

Yeah, enjoy while it lasts.

I have just investigated the situation at Bordeaux very quickly. So here is a quick resumé of what seems and I think is going on.
Pierre Hurmic Mayor of Bordeaux (affliation Europe ecology verts) is leading the charge.
2 major interests have come forward:
Pascal Rigo founder of La Boulangerie (san francisco and now partener with Starbucks) and,
Bruno Fievet businessman Swiss.
A project of fan ownership has also been invoked (which I believe to be the preferred option though is ‘complicated’).

Niether of the mentionned options propose much more than a 50% buy out, King Street want a complete buy out and are demanding 130M€. This is propbably why the Mayor is so implicated and why I feel the fan based project is the preferred option (as if the town has to put up 50% of the buy out why not?).

I’ll now look into the involvement of the Mayor of Bordeaux, I presume the Mayor owns the stadium (and rents it) and probably has a stake in the club but I don’t know to what extent (though at a guess will say around 20%).

EDIT: The Mayor is owner of the stadium. King street is the owner of the club at 100%.

So what’s the latest on Bordeaux? I think they have won just once since February.

There’s now a 3rd candidate for a buy out. Élie Simon a Palois head of FinTech (company swiss) is leading a ‘democratic’ take over based on actions. Seems to be championning a sort of fan buy out and a ‘fairly’ local man.

Other than that yes Bordeaux are having a rough time of it on the field.

Third-placed Monaco (71 points) hosts fourth-placed Lyon (67 points) tonight.

The situation at Saint etienne is similar to Bordeaux. Supporters not happy and the Mayor not happy.
Club is owned by 2 people who have asked a financial institution to oversee the sale.
The selling price has been speculated to be 20 million Euros which makes it very different to Bordeaux where the asking price is nearer the 140 million euro mark.
So of course there is enormous interest in ASSE unfortunately this encourages ‘silly’ projets however also gives an opportunity to fans and collectives.

Interesting, I hadn’t heard about it. St. Etienne is a fantastic club imo. That’s a real opportunity for fans to try to buy the club. 20 millions is certainly feasible.
