****Curtis Jones on the heated argument with Dominik Szoboszlai after the Wrexham match: **

“People think this was about the captain’s armband. It wasn’t. The armband was just the moment everyone saw. There were things said before that, things people don’t know and probably never will. I reacted the way I did because I felt disrespected, not because I wanted a piece of fabric on my arm. “At this club, respect comes before titles. If you think I was fighting over who gets to wear the armband, you’ve completely missed the point. We spoke afterwards, shook hands, hugged it out, and that’s where it stays. “The dressing room will deal with the rest. Let people speculate if they want the truth doesn’t always need an audience.”**

Oh dear. Jones having a hissy fit in front of tens of thousands of people and TV cameras. If he doesn’t want people to speculate, don’t throw your dummy in public, save it for behind closed doors.

I mean he says it wasn’t about the captaincy so lets go with that.

Having said that what is Tsimikas getting the armband for? He’s a career backup who was sent out on loan last season.

I think its silly to get upset about an armband, or even to want it so much, but it is kind of odd that Tsimikas is the one who got it.

But from social media I’ve seen Jones, Tsimikas and Szoboszlai are pretty close friends so its probably just one of those blow ups that happens in a friend group sometimes. It’ll quickly be forgotten.

in all honesty, I dont mind Jones leaving, not just for footballing reasons but for life reasons and for something different. he has been at lfc all his life and trying something different, with different culture, and different team is how people grow

I actually want to stick up for Curtis here, since everyone seems to be ganging up on him. There’s a video showing the whole incident, and you can clearly see that Dom started this stupid argument. Things wouldn’t have escalated like that if Dom had just thought it through a bit more beforehand and simply handed the armband to Curtis, or if he had simply left Curtis alone later on. It seems, Curtis evidently felt disrespected and overlooked—twice! It was probably just the final straw; things like that happen. I think people are jumping on Curtis way too quickly; Dom seems immune to criticism, even though he’s shown time and again that he completely lacks the necessary tact—something a good captain really ought to have. I’m convinced this never would have happened with Virgil, and I hope they learn from it.

It’s also live on YouTube right now.

The fact that Curtis thought it was appropriate to throw a fit in public, in full view of the cameras and supporters, is precisely why he shouldn’t get the arm band.

Once again, Dominik started this discussion in public. The videos circulating don’t show the very beginning. Curtis reacted because he was likely seething inside. But if Dom hadn’t approached him, things almost certainly wouldn’t have escalated like that. As I said, there was a lack of tact. Dom should have just left him alone; that would have been smarter.

Neither of them covered themselves in glory there, but I feel it’s totally unfair to pin the blame solely on Curtis now. I just wanted to say that, because I find this discussion too one-sided.

I coach my son’s 2020s team, and would be embarrassed if this was written about our 6yos. These primadonnas need to get a grip

We desperately need some signings or the season so we can move on from being Hello gossip magazine.

Regardless of this incident I think Szoboszlai has shown himself too immature to be captain. The time he went shouting at the away fans and demanding more respect from them was pretty embarrassing behaviour.

I don’t see a player worthy of having the armband in any of Szoboszlai, Tsimikas or Jones to be honest but all our leaders are away for the moment. van Dijk and Alisson are clearly the main ones. We have to develop some more.

Yes, I also think he seems to lack a feel for the situation—or perhaps he simply can’t really put himself in others’ shoes and is too self-centered. That’s not a good trait for a captain; he urgently needs to learn how to de-escalate situations instead of just making them worse.

After last season I, like most fans, just wanted a fresh start and some positivity and this just looks like there are still some issues in the squad. But yeah probably blown out of proportion and not worth dragging it out.
