It might have given them a chance at 6 foot plus if one was actually marking him :face_blowing_a_kiss:

It’s been a thankless task being our CF for years. Starved of service. We have had a succession of wide players on both sides who’s prime concern has been cutting in and getting a shot off. If that’s not possible it’s been a ball wafted towards the back post that is defended easily.
A lack of craft and guile from our midfield compounds the problem.
Unless we break these habits and actually start to play to the strengths of our CF’s and develop a style of play that produces chances for them then we may as well not bother with a CF.
I’m still amazed Ekiteke got the numbers he did last season given the service we provide.

Wonder if that’s why we looked crap at 10pm :joy:

Ceefax/Teletext was another one, you would log on numerous times to find an update. I can only imagine the genuine confusion etched across children’s faces when their parents try to explain what it was.

I think the idea is that you use a smaller player to get in the way, obstruct, disturb the movement of their bigger players. Allowing your big guys to focus on the cross/ball.
I am sure the analysts will have data to justify this tactic, but like you I just find it a bit mad.
Unfortunately, I think this is going to be a repeated frustration of our this season.

I guess that is the theory but the thing about big guys is that they tend to be able to shove little guys around and then they end up getting in the way of their own big guys who in turn can’t…you get what I mean I’m sure, so why can’t the coaches.? One thing I’m certain if is that in bery short time this fad will be ditched because it is bollocks.

I’m with you on this one. Remember all the rage of Zonal Marking under Rafa….

I think that is why Firmino has been our most successful “CF” playing in this style, in that he is not a CF. I can imagine this is why Eketeke had some success last season, as his style has some similarities to Bobbie - in my opinion.

Completely agree. I guess the idea last season was to start transitioning away from this, by having a CF like Isak, who plays on the shoulder of defenders, being supplied by Wirtz. Unfortunately, Isak got injured and we had no Plan B.
I think one of our problems last season in the front 3 is that they are all passive/predictable. As you say the wide players would always cut in. In the past you had Bobby and Mane, with Diaz/Jota/Nunez as back up, all would get stuck in and you didn’t know what they were going to do,
That is why Rio was so refreshing last season.

I have no problem with our Full backs being the ones to provide the width and put the crosses in, but they need the ball to do this.
Last Season it got to a point where Gapko/Salah would get the ball out full back would make a run and literally everyone knew they would not be used. When I say everyone, I even include my Gf that’s how bad it was.
What this results in is the FB making half hearted runs and the defending team not committing men to that run.

I will be honest, at the moment I am a bit confused at what we are trying to achieve from this Transfer window. I am pretty confident Gapko will be gone and Barcola his replacement, not sure whether these funds could be better used in midfield.
Anyhow, one thing I can say is that my expectations have well and truly been managed this year.

Maybe the changing of wingers sides may also be more productive for the CF as when they get to the byline they will be crossing with their strongest foot.

We still have it in Germany. I occasionally use it when I have misplaced my phone.

A complete aside, but I was discussing phone addiction with a colleague, and I pointed out that before smartphones I would habitually switch on teletext to see if anything new had happened. It used to drive the family mad, presumably because they wanted to watch the adverts or a trailer for Eastenders, rather than know what the latest scores in the Scottish second division were.
