It does say “if” it goes ahead, although it might be a nice opportunity for a footballing memorial for Diogo.
I find it really odd they purchased the rights to show this.
Wonder if they are looking at broadcasting most of our pre season.
Strange alright, but we’re Champions, so maybe that’s why?
That’s all I can think of unless it’s a wider thing about broadcasting our pre season.
Can’t remember them doing it for anyone else, noticed the others have TBC on them. Wonder if we are attempting to get money for them this time out instead of showing them through LFC TV.
It’s potentially a sizable audience for far less than they would have to pay for major competitions. Certainly, I have been able to watch quite a few of our pre-season games on Austrian FTV channels, so it’s not a new idea as such.
I think the club are restructuring their commercial arms, so it may be that we see more games on major broadcasters rather than LFC TV.
Yeah it’s just they’ve never done this kind of thing before so I found it odd.
I am definitely more eager to watch this pre-season due to the 3 new major signings.
I kind of was this time last week.
I’m not sure if there has been a preseason I was more looking forward to than this one. Defending champions. Three major signings including one of the best midfielders in the world. No CWC to tax our players, giving them a proper rest. Positive vibes and momentum all around. I was looking forward to seeing the boys meet up in Kirby. The smiles and hugs and humor that are documented on the social media channels. It’s just such a nice way to start the season.
Now I find myself feeling like Mo - almost afraid to see the boys return because it’ll just cement the horror of Jota’s passing. I can’t imagine what it’ll be like for the boys to see each other. To sit in the dining area without Diogo. To enter the dressing room without his name and number.
It’ll get easier over time. But I imagine the first few days are going to feel quite somber.
Not to be an insensitive shit head, but the boys will move on and honestly the sooner they return to the business of getting ready for the season the better for everyone. No group is as well equipped at dealing with the sudden loss of a member, even a big personality, as a football team. It’s inherent to football
I’d tend to agree with this, mainly because from experience it is easier to deal with if you are with a group of friends that you can speak to and are occupied with something other than your own grief.
Even if they play the Preston game, there will be players who are still grieving. That’s very normal. But they will have a support network of others who are going through the same thing.
With respect to Jota having that injury in the Chelsea game.
That was a horrible tackle and one that deserved a red card.
But apart from that , Tosin , the player wouldn’t know that his tackle would start this. Football is a contact sport and injuries do happen as a result of that. Tosin can’t be blamed for the series of events that followed.
I hope that Tosin gets the help if he needs any. He shouldn’t be hounded about the tackle. The lack of punishment to the tackle is something that the FA and PGMOL needs to look at.
Impossible for us to know how this will affect the group now and in the near future, it can be very different with certain individuals.
At some point, we have to go back to work, life has to move on. I’m pretty sure the decision makers upstairs are almost 24/7 anyway (it’s the type of job, especially in transfer markets). Even when you’re away at such a tragic event.
Hopefully have enough time to swallow it and perhaps use it as motivation for next season. Try to, because now it might still be fresh.
In 20/21 our title defence was destroyed with that situation at CB. Hopefully this doesn’t turn out to be a new difficult factor to overcome for our targets.
Also it can really help with grief to have a common cause to focus on in a loved one’s memory. Like people doing charity runs etc. They can score goals and do his celebration, and ultimately win the fucking league and dedicate it to him. It wont bring him back but will feel like doing something
I hope that LFC is given the rights to simul-cast the first preseason of the year, the fans will want to watch that match for the tributes alone. I do, for sure
I think it’s important not to generalise or think all the players will behave as one. Some may prefer to throw themselves back into it, maybe even see this as some added motivation for the season. Others may need more time or to process things on their own and in their own way. No doubt at least one will act one way in public and another in private.
There is strength in the group but it is also easier for those that may be struggling more to hide or get lost within that group.
I’m sure the club will have a plan to ensure everyone gets the support they need and the squad will look out for each other. If that means we don’t publicly see some folks for a couple more weeks then so be it.
Best news is it means the boys feel like they want to start again, at least most of them.
I think that is the right decision. The staff will let players take individual decisions on whether they feel ready, but I imagine most of them will want to get on a pitch and play football. And I think for fans it’s important to come together.
